LITTLE GUS IS STILL MISSING ONE YEAR LATER — “SOMEONE KNOWS WHAT HAPPENED”
One year has passed since four-year-old Gus Lamont disappeared from his family’s remote property in South Australia — and his family is still waiting for the answer they have desperately wanted for 12 months.
Gus vanished from Oak Park Station near Yunta on September 27, 2025.
Despite one of the largest and most intensive missing-person searches in South Australian history, there has still been no confirmed trace of the little boy.
Now, as the heartbreaking anniversary passes, authorities have renewed their efforts to find out what happened to him.
A FOUR-YEAR-OLD BOY DISAPPEARED IN MINUTES
Gus was last seen playing outside his family’s home at around 5 p.m.
His family later realised that he was no longer there and raised the alarm.
What followed was a huge search operation across the remote property.
Police, emergency workers, volunteers, defence personnel, specialist teams, aircraft, dogs and Indigenous trackers were among those involved in the search.
The vast Oak Park Station covers an enormous area of difficult outback terrain, making the investigation particularly challenging.
SEARCH TEAMS LEFT NO STONE UNTURNED
For months, investigators repeatedly returned to the area.
Waterways, wells, bores and large sections of the surrounding property were searched.
Aerial footage was examined, while specialist teams carried out detailed searches on the ground.
Police have conducted numerous searches since Gus disappeared, but none has produced the breakthrough his family has been waiting for.
At one stage, investigators believed Gus may simply have wandered away from the property.
That theory later changed.
POLICE NO LONGER BELIEVE GUS SIMPLY WANDERED OFF
By early 2026, investigators said there was no physical or other evidence supporting the idea that Gus had simply wandered away.
The case became a major crime investigation.
Police have also said they have not found evidence establishing that Gus was abducted.
As the investigation continued, detectives began focusing more closely on people who may have information about what happened.
More recently, police have indicated they believe someone knows what happened to Gus.
The Guardian reported that investigators had narrowed their focus to someone within the household, while Gus’s parents have been excluded as suspects.
HIS GRANDMOTHER HAS SPOKEN PUBLICLY
Gus’s grandmother, Josie Murray, has attracted particular attention during the investigation.
She has been identified by police as a person of interest/suspect, while she has maintained her innocence.
In a recent interview, she spoke publicly about the disappearance and showed reporters parts of the property where Gus had been before he vanished.
She has continued to deny wrongdoing and has said she wants answers about what happened to her grandson.
No charge has been reported against her in connection with Gus’s disappearance.
HIS PARENTS ARE STILL WAITING FOR THEIR SON
Gus’s parents, Joshua Lamont and Jessica Murray, recently made an emotional public appeal as the one-year anniversary approached.
They described the past year as the most devastating and inexplicable period of their lives.
They also spoke about the milestones Gus has missed while he has been gone — including his fifth birthday and his younger brother’s first birthday.
His mother described Gus as a beautiful, sweet and unique little boy who loved music, stories and exploring the natural world.
His father said the family believes someone has information that could finally explain what happened.
A $1 MILLION REWARD
In September 2026, South Australian authorities announced a reward of up to $1 million Australian dollars for information that could help resolve Gus’s disappearance.
Police hope the enormous reward will encourage someone with important information to finally come forward.
Investigators have also warned the public against spreading unverified theories and misinformation online, saying credible information is what could genuinely help the investigation.
ONE YEAR — AND STILL NO ANSWER
The disappearance of Little Gus has now become one of Australia’s most closely watched missing-child investigations.
His family has spent an entire year without knowing where their little boy is.
There have been searches, interviews, new leads, aerial reviews and repeated investigations — but still no definitive answer.
And for Gus’s parents, the message remains painfully simple:
They just want their son home.
A year later, the question remains:
What happened to Little Gus Lamont?
