‘SHE WAS A BEAUTIFUL, CARING GIRL’ — NADIA MUCHA, 16, DIES AFTER BEING FOUND INJURED ON WAKEFIELD ROAD AS FAMILY WAITS FOR ANSWERS
A 16-year-old girl has died four days after she was found critically injured on a Wakefield road — as police investigate a suspected hit-and-run and a 25-year-old man has been arrested and later released on bail.
Nadia Mucha was just 16.
On the evening of September 29, she was found lying seriously injured on Rooks Nest Road in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, close to a bus stop.
Four days later, her family received the devastating news that she had died.
Now, as detectives work to establish exactly what happened to her, Nadia’s loved ones are facing the unbearable task of saying goodbye to a teenage girl remembered as caring, selfless and full of life.
NADIA FOUND INJURED ON THE ROAD
Emergency services were called to Rooks Nest Road at approximately 8:33pm on Tuesday, September 29, after a 16-year-old girl was found lying in the road near a bus stop.
Nadia was taken to hospital with serious injuries, including significant head and chest injuries.
At first, detectives said they were keeping an open mind about how she had become injured.
They urgently appealed to motorists and pedestrians who had been in the area between approximately 8pm and 8:30pm to come forward.
Police were particularly interested in dashcam recordings and doorbell footage that could help establish what happened.
POLICE BELIEVE SHE WAS THE VICTIM OF A HIT-AND-RUN
As the investigation developed, detectives reached the conclusion that Nadia had been involved in a fail-to-stop road traffic collision.
West Yorkshire Police said they believed she had been struck by a vehicle whose driver failed to remain at the scene.
The investigation was taken over by officers from the force’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team.
Police continued to appeal for anyone who had witnessed anything unusual around Rooks Nest Road that evening to contact them.
FOUR DAYS LATER, NADIA DIED
Despite receiving hospital treatment, Nadia sadly died on Saturday, October 3.
She had spent four days in hospital after being found in the road.
The news devastated her family and friends.
Police later confirmed her identity as Nadia Mucha, aged 16, as detectives continued working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the collision.
Temporary Detective Chief Inspector Elly Buchanan said officers were supporting Nadia’s family through what she described as a “horrific time.”
She said investigators were working to find the answers Nadia’s loved ones deserved.
A 25-YEAR-OLD MAN ARRESTED
In the early hours of October 5, detectives arrested a 25-year-old man on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
The arrest came after police had established that Nadia was believed to have been the victim of a collision in which the vehicle failed to stop.
The man was initially held by police while enquiries continued.
He has since been released on bail pending further enquiries.
No conviction has been recorded, and the investigation remains ongoing.
POLICE ARE STILL SEARCHING FOR ANSWERS
Detectives have continued to appeal for witnesses and anyone with information that could help reconstruct Nadia’s final moments.
Police are particularly interested in anyone who was travelling along Rooks Nest Road around the time of the incident.
Dashcam footage could be particularly important.
Even footage that does not appear to show the collision itself could potentially help investigators establish the movements of vehicles and people in the area.
Anyone with information is being asked to contact West Yorkshire Police, quoting reference 13260555273.
Information can also be provided anonymously through Crimestoppers.
REMEMBERING NADIA
As news of her death spread, tributes began describing Nadia as a caring and selfless young woman.
Those who knew her remembered a teenager who was loved by the people around her.
She was only 16, with her future still ahead of her.
Friends and members of the community have been left grieving the loss of a girl whose life ended in circumstances that investigators are still working to understand.
For Nadia’s family, the pain is compounded by unanswered questions.
They now have to mourn their daughter while waiting to learn exactly what happened on Rooks Nest Road that night.
‘SHE DESERVES ANSWERS’
Detective Chief Inspector Buchanan said police remained committed to supporting Nadia’s family.
She urged anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who may have relevant footage to come forward.
“Our investigation is still ongoing,” police said, while appealing for information that could help bring answers to Nadia’s family.
For those closest to Nadia, every piece of information could matter.
A passing driver.
A pedestrian.
A doorbell camera.
A dashcam recording.
Something that may have seemed insignificant at the time could help investigators understand the events of that September evening.
