BELOVED GP FOUND DEAD AT HOME — HUSBAND CHARGED WITH MURDER AS COURT HEARS OF HEAD AND NECK INJURIES

Dr Hannah Cain, 45, was found unresponsive in an upstairs bedroom at her family home near the Sandringham Estate. Her husband has now been charged with her murder as prosecutors reveal new details about her injuries.

A quiet Norfolk community has been left devastated after a much-loved GP was found dead inside her family home — with her husband now facing a murder charge.

Dr Hannah Cain, 45, known professionally as Dr Hannah Terry, was found unresponsive at a property in Fern Hill, Dersingham, in the early hours of Sunday, October 4.

Just days later, her husband, Mark Cain, 45, was formally charged with her murder.

THE EARLY-MORNING EMERGENCY CALL

Emergency services were called to the family home at around 2:25 a.m. on October 4.

According to prosecutors, Hannah was discovered in an upstairs bedroom not breathing and unconscious.

Paramedics attended the property before police became involved.

Norfolk Police subsequently launched a murder investigation and arrested Mark Cain.

The couple’s home is in Fern Hill, Dersingham, a village situated just over a mile from Sandringham House, one of the royal family’s residences.

Police initially said a post-mortem examination had been carried out but that the cause of death remained subject to further investigation.

At Mark Cain’s first court appearance on October 7, prosecutor Jackie Hanlon provided further information about the medical findings.

She told Norwich Magistrates’ Court that the post-mortem examination had identified a blunt-force injury to the right side of Hannah’s head.

The examination also identified an injury that could be suggestive of compression of the neck.

The findings were disclosed in court as part of the prosecution case against Mark Cain.

However, the exact circumstances surrounding those injuries have not been determined at trial, and the defendant has not entered a plea.

The Crown Prosecution Service has stressed that bringing a charge is not a finding of guilt.

CHILDREN WERE REPORTEDLY IN THE HOUSE

Another deeply disturbing detail emerged during the hearing.

Prosecutors told the court that children were present at the property at the time.

Reports have said Hannah had been hosting a sleepover for children, although authorities have not publicly released detailed information about the circumstances involving them.

The children are not accused of any wrongdoing.

The presence of children has added another layer of shock to a case that has already deeply affected the local community.

WHO WAS DR HANNAH CAIN?

Away from the investigation, Hannah was known locally for her work as a doctor.

She worked at Grimston Medical Centre, where she was listed as part of the practice team.

The practice temporarily closed following her death, citing extremely difficult circumstances affecting its team.

Hannah had been a qualified doctor for more than 15 years and had worked as a GP for around eight years. She also ran a cosmetic medical business, Norfolk Sky Aesthetics.

She was reportedly also part of a pool of doctors who could provide medical care to members of the Royal Family when they were staying at nearby Sandringham.

That connection has drawn additional attention to her death, although colleagues and patients primarily knew her for her work as a local doctor.

A FAMILY LEFT DEVASTATED

Hannah’s family have described her as a kind, generous and loving woman.

In a statement released after her death, they said they were devastated by the loss of their beloved family member.

They remembered her not only as a mother, daughter, sister and friend, but also as a doctor who took great care of her patients.

Her family have asked the public and media to respect their privacy while they mourn.

Specialist police officers are supporting the family.

Tributes have also been left outside Grimston Medical Centre, where patients and colleagues have been mourning the doctor.

HER HUSBAND APPEARS IN COURT

Mark Cain appeared before Norwich Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, October 7.

He spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth.

He was not asked to enter a plea during the short hearing.

District Judge Matthew Bone remanded him in custody and sent the case to King’s Lynn Crown Court, where he is due to appear on October 8.

The proceedings remain active.

Under UK law, Mark Cain is presumed innocent unless and until he is proven guilty in court.

QUESTIONS THAT REMAIN

The murder charge has brought a major development in the investigation, but many questions remain unanswered.

Why was Hannah found unconscious in an upstairs bedroom?

How did she sustain the head injury?

What caused the injury to her neck?

And what happened inside the family home before emergency services arrived?

The prosecution has now set out some of the medical evidence behind the charge, but the full case against Mark Cain will have to be tested through the court process.

Norfolk Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Hannah’s death.

For the people who knew Dr Hannah Terry as their doctor, however, the case is about more than a court hearing.

It is about the sudden loss of a woman remembered as a caring GP, a mother and a much-loved member of her community.

💔 As the investigation moves into the courts, one question remains at the centre of the case:

What happened to Dr Hannah Cain inside her family home in the early hours of October 4?
