THE LAST NIGHT — ROYAL FAMILY GP’S FINAL HOURS REVEALED IN COURT AS HUSBAND FACES MURDER CHARGE

Dr Hannah Cain was found unconscious in an upstairs bedroom while children were present at the family home near Sandringham. Her husband, Mark Cain, has been charged with her murder.

What should have been an ordinary night for a family has become the centre of a devastating murder investigation after a respected GP was found unresponsive inside her home near the Sandringham Estate.

Dr Hannah Cain, 45, known professionally as Dr Hannah Terry, was found in an upstairs bedroom at her home in Dersingham, Norfolk, in the early hours of October 4.

Her husband, Mark Cain, 45, has since been charged with her murder.

The case came before Norwich Magistrates’ Court on October 7, where Cain spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth. He was not asked to enter a plea and was remanded in custody.

Prosecutor Jackie Hanlon told the court that the ambulance service contacted police at around 2.25am after Hannah was discovered inside the property.

She was found “not breathing, not conscious” in an upstairs bedroom and was attended by paramedics.

The prosecution also told the court that children were present inside the property at the time.

Those details have added another deeply distressing element to a case that has shocked the local community.

WHAT THE POST-MORTEM REVEALED

The court heard preliminary findings from a post-mortem examination.

Prosecutors said the examination noted a blunt-force injury to the right side of Hannah’s head.

It also identified an injury that could be suggestive of compression of the neck.

Those findings formed part of the evidence presented when Mark Cain appeared in court. However, the criminal proceedings are still at an early stage, and the allegations against him have not been tested at trial.

Hannah was not only known locally as a GP. She was also reportedly part of a pool of doctors available to members of the Royal Family when they were staying near Sandringham.

She worked at Grimston Medical Centre, a practice close to the royal estate, and was known professionally by patients as Dr Terry.

Reports have stated that she had treated senior members of the Royal Family, including Queen Camilla, although the precise details of individual consultations have not been publicly confirmed by the Palace.

She had been a qualified doctor for more than 15 years and had worked as a GP for eight years, according to the website of her cosmetics business, Norfolk Sky Aesthetics.

Alongside medicine, she had built a second professional role in cosmetic treatments.

THE HOME WAS FILLED WITH CHILDREN

One of the most striking details surrounding the investigation is that children were present at the property when emergency services were called.

Reports have said Hannah had been hosting a children’s sleepover at the family home.

The full circumstances of what happened inside the house, and what the children may have witnessed or experienced, have not been publicly detailed in court.

Police and prosecutors have not suggested that the children were responsible for what happened.

Their presence is instead part of the wider circumstances investigators are examining as they attempt to reconstruct the final hours of Hannah’s life.

A COMMUNITY LEFT IN SHOCK

Hannah’s death has deeply affected patients and colleagues in the area.

Grimston Medical Centre temporarily closed following the tragedy, describing the circumstances as “extremely difficult” for its practice team.

Flowers and cards were left outside the medical centre as patients and local residents paid tribute to the doctor they knew as Hannah or Dr Terry.

Her family described her as kind, generous and loving, saying she was a beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt, daughter-in-law and friend.

They also praised the care she gave to her patients.

The family has asked for privacy while specialist officers continue to support them.

HUSBAND REMANDED IN CUSTODY

Mark Cain has been charged with murder following a police investigation into Hannah’s death.

The Crown Prosecution Service confirmed that it had authorised the prosecution, while stressing that the decision to charge is not a finding of guilt and that the defendant has the right to a fair trial.

After his appearance at Norwich Magistrates’ Court, Cain was remanded in custody and the case was sent to King’s Lynn Crown Court.

The next stages of the proceedings will determine how the prosecution case develops and what evidence is ultimately presented to a jury.

For now, the central questions surrounding Hannah’s final hours remain before the courts.

A doctor who spent her life caring for others was found unresponsive inside her own home.

And behind the headlines about a royal connection and a children’s sleepover is a family now facing an unimaginable loss.

Mark Cain has been charged with murder. He has not been convicted, and the allegations against him remain to be determined by the court.
