THE LAST NIGHT — ROYAL FAMILY GP’S FINAL HOURS REVEALED IN COURT AS HUSBAND FACES MURDER CHARGE
Dr Hannah Cain, a mother of three and GP reportedly part of a pool serving the Royal Family, was found unconscious in an upstairs bedroom while children were present inside the family home.
What should have been an ordinary night for a family in Dersingham, Norfolk, has become the centre of a major murder investigation.
Dr Hannah Cain, 45, known professionally as Dr Hannah Terry, was found unconscious and not breathing in an upstairs bedroom at her home in Fern Hill in the early hours of Sunday, October 4.
Her husband, Mark Cain, also 45, has since been charged with her murder.
He appeared before Norwich Magistrates’ Court on October 7, where he confirmed his name, address and date of birth. He was not asked to enter a plea and was remanded in custody pending his next hearing at King’s Lynn Crown Court.
The allegations against him have not been proven in court. Under English law, he remains presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
THE 2:25 A.M. CALL
The court heard that emergency services contacted police at approximately 2:25 a.m. on October 4.
Prosecutor Jackie Hanlon told magistrates that Hannah was found upstairs, “not breathing, not conscious,” before paramedics attended.
A post-mortem examination subsequently recorded a blunt-force injury to the right side of her head.
The examination also identified another injury that prosecutors said could be suggestive of compression of the neck.
The court was also told that children were present in the property at the time.
However, authorities have not publicly established a motive, and the precise sequence of events inside the house remains part of the ongoing investigation.
A CHILDREN’S SLEEPOVER TURNED INTO A CRIME SCENE
Reports have said Hannah had been hosting a sleepover involving her children and their friends at the family home.
The detail has added another deeply unsettling dimension to a case that has shocked the local community.
The house stands just over a mile from Sandringham House, the Norfolk residence used by King Charles and Queen Camilla.
Hannah was a GP at Grimston Medical Centre and was reportedly part of a pool of doctors who could be called upon to care for members of the Royal Family when they were in the area.
She was also known as Dr Hannah Terry to patients and had worked as a qualified doctor for more than 15 years, including around eight years as a GP.
A DOCTOR REMEMBERED FOR HER CARE
Away from the headlines surrounding the investigation, Hannah’s family have spoken about the woman they knew.
In a statement released through police, they described her as:
“Kind, generous and loving.”
They said she was a beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt, daughter-in-law and friend.
Her family also praised the care she gave to her patients, many of whom knew her simply as Dr Terry.
“We are incredibly proud of the woman she was and of the great care she took of all her patients,” they said, while asking for privacy during an extraordinarily difficult time.
Flowers and messages have since been left at Grimston Medical Centre, where colleagues and patients have been mourning her loss.
The practice was temporarily closed following the tragedy, citing “extremely difficult circumstances” affecting its team.
THE INVESTIGATION IS STILL IN ITS EARLY STAGES
Norfolk Police have stressed that the investigation remains at an early stage.
Detective Inspector Alix Wright said specialist officers were working to establish exactly what happened and appealed to anyone with information to contact police.
A motive has not been publicly disclosed.
The Crown Prosecution Service has also issued a reminder that the charge against Mark Cain is not a finding of guilt. The CPS said its decision to prosecute was based on an assessment of what could potentially be proved before a criminal court.
Mark Cain has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at King’s Lynn Crown Court.
For Hannah’s family, however, the legal process is only beginning.
Behind the courtroom headlines is the loss of a 45-year-old doctor, mother and colleague whose family say she was kind, loving and deeply devoted to the people around her.
And as investigators work to reconstruct the final hours inside the Dersingham home, one fact remains at the heart of the tragedy:
A family home filled with children became the setting for a devastating loss that has left a community searching for answers.
