ROYAL GP’S HUSBAND ACCUSED OF AXE ATTACK AND STRANGLING AS CHILDREN SLEPT OVER — COURT HEARS NEW DETAILS

Dr Hannah Cain, 45, was found unresponsive at her home near the Sandringham Estate. Her husband has been charged with her murder after prosecutors outlined allegations involving an axe, neck compression and a reported burglary call.

A respected doctor who was part of a team providing medical care to members of the British Royal Family has died at her home in Norfolk, prompting an investigation that has shocked her local community.

Dr Hannah Cain, 45, also known professionally as Dr Hannah Terry, was found unconscious and unresponsive in an upstairs bedroom at her home in Dersingham in the early hours of Sunday, October 4, 2026.

Her husband, Mark Cain, 45, has been charged with her murder. At a hearing at King’s Lynn Crown Court on October 8, prosecutors outlined further allegations about what they say happened inside the family home.

The case has drawn particular attention because five children were reportedly in the house during the incident, including the couple’s three sons and two children who had come for a sleepover.

Mark Cain has not entered a plea, and the allegations have not yet been tested at trial.

Prosecutor Steven Ball told the court that the alleged incident took place between the evening of Saturday, October 3, and the early hours of the following morning.

According to the prosecution, the couple’s three children, aged eight, 11 and 13, were upstairs when the incident allegedly occurred. Two other children, aged eight and 10, were also staying at the property for a sleepover.

The court heard that emergency services attended after a report of a suspected burglary was made.

Prosecutors alleged that Mark Cain had told police he had confronted an intruder downstairs while his wife was upstairs. He was reportedly found with superficial cuts.

The prosecution further alleged that Dr Cain had been struck on the head with an axe and strangled.

These are allegations presented by the prosecution, not findings reached after a trial. The court will consider the evidence as the legal proceedings continue.

THE MEDICAL FINDINGS REPORTED TO THE COURT

An earlier hearing at Norwich Magistrates’ Court heard that the ambulance service contacted police at approximately 2:25 a.m. on October 4 after Dr Cain was found not breathing and not conscious.

Paramedics attended the upstairs bedroom, but she could not be revived.

At the subsequent court proceedings, prosecutors referred to the post-mortem examination, which recorded blunt-force injuries to her head and neck injuries consistent with compression.

Norfolk Police confirmed that a man had been charged following the discovery of the 45-year-old woman’s body at a property on Fern Hill.

The police investigation and criminal proceedings are continuing.

WHO WAS DR HANNAH CAIN?

Away from the courtroom, tributes have focused on Dr Cain’s work as a doctor, her commitment to patients and her role as a mother.

She was known professionally as Dr Hannah Terry and was listed as a member of the team at Grimston Medical Centre in Norfolk.

According to her professional business website, she had been a qualified doctor for more than 15 years and had worked as a GP for eight years. Alongside her medical work, she also ran Norfolk Sky Aesthetics, a cosmetic treatment business.

Dr Cain was also part of a group of doctors who were regularly available to provide medical care to members of the Royal Family when they stayed at Sandringham, near her home.

Her death has prompted an outpouring of sadness from colleagues and people in the local community who knew her through her medical work. <Cite refs=

In a statement released after her death, Dr Cain’s family described her as “kind, generous and loving”.

They also praised the care she gave her patients, remembering her as a devoted professional whose work had made a difference to many people.

The family has asked for privacy as they grieve.

For those who knew her, the public details emerging in court are only one part of a much greater personal loss: a mother, daughter and doctor whose life was closely connected to her family and community.

The family’s tribute has brought attention back to the person behind the headlines, at a time when the criminal investigation is attracting widespread public interest.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

Mark Cain appeared at King’s Lynn Crown Court by video link from prison on October 8. He confirmed his identity but was not asked to enter a plea.

The judge remanded him in custody until a plea hearing scheduled for December 3, 2026, provisionally at Norwich Crown Court. No provisional trial date had been set at the time of the hearing.

The court will continue to deal with the case through the criminal justice process. Until the evidence has been tested and a verdict reached, Mark Cain is presumed innocent of the charge.

Authorities have not established a motive publicly in the court reports cited here.

A COMMUNITY MOURNS A MUCH-LOVED DOCTOR

The death of Dr Hannah Cain has left her family grieving and her professional community remembering a doctor who dedicated years to caring for others.

As the legal proceedings move forward, the focus remains on establishing the circumstances of her death and examining the allegations made in court.

For her family, however, the immediate reality is the loss of a loved one whose life extended far beyond her professional reputation.

Dr Hannah Cain was 45. She was a mother, a doctor and a valued member of her community. While the court process continues, those who loved her are left to mourn her and hold on to the memories they shared.
