“THE LAST NIGHT”: ROYAL FAMILY GP’S FINAL HOURS REVEALED IN COURT AS HUSBAND FACES MURDER CHARGE
Five children were reportedly inside the family home during a sleepover when Dr Hannah Cain was found unresponsive. Now, a court has heard new details about the injuries she allegedly suffered before her death.
The death of Dr Hannah Cain, a 45-year-old GP known professionally as Dr Hannah Terry, has left her family, patients and local community devastated.
Her body was discovered at the family home in Dersingham, Norfolk, in the early hours of Sunday, October 4, 2026. Her husband, Mark Cain, 45, has been charged with her murder.
The case took a further step on Thursday, October 8, when Mark appeared by video link at King’s Lynn Crown Court. Prosecutors outlined preliminary findings from the post-mortem examination as the legal proceedings continued.
WHAT THE COURT HEARD ABOUT HER FINAL HOURS
Prosecutor Steven Ball told the court that the alleged killing took place between the evening of October 3 and the early hours of October 4.
Dr Cain was found upstairs in a bedroom, unconscious and unresponsive, according to the prosecution.
The court heard that preliminary post-mortem findings recorded blunt-force injuries to her head and neck injuries consistent with compression.
These findings form part of the evidence in an ongoing criminal case. The allegations against Mark Cain have not been proven in court.
FIVE CHILDREN WERE IN THE HOUSE
One of the most distressing details to emerge was that five children were reportedly at the property that night.
The couple’s three children, aged eight, 11 and 13, were upstairs, while two other children, aged eight and 10, were staying over for a sleepover.
The court did not establish that the children witnessed the alleged incident. Their presence has nevertheless added to the concern surrounding a tragedy that unfolded inside a family home.
Authorities have not publicly established in the hearings reported so far what each child heard or saw that night.
WHO WAS DR HANNAH CAIN?
Known to patients as Dr Hannah Terry, Hannah Cain had worked in medicine for more than 15 years and as a GP for around eight years.
She was associated with Grimston Medical Centre and had also run Norfolk Sky Aesthetics, a business offering cosmetic treatments.
She was part of a group of doctors available to provide medical care to members of the Royal Family when they stayed at the nearby Sandringham Estate. This was a professional medical role, rather than a royal appointment.
Her family described her as “kind, generous and loving” and praised the care she gave to her patients.
Their tribute remembered her not simply as a doctor, but as a beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend.
THE HUSBAND’S COURT APPEARANCE
Mark Cain appeared at Norwich Magistrates’ Court on October 7 before appearing at King’s Lynn Crown Court the following day.
He confirmed his identity during the Crown Court hearing but was not asked to enter a plea. No bail application was made, and he was remanded in custody.
A plea hearing is provisionally scheduled for December 3, 2026, at Norwich Crown Court. No provisional trial date had been set in the latest reports.
The proceedings are at an early stage, and the prosecution must prove its allegations through the legal process.
A COMMUNITY MOURNS A DOCTOR AND MOTHER
The news has deeply affected the medical community around Dersingham. Grimston Medical Centre temporarily closed following the tragedy, citing extremely difficult circumstances affecting its team.
For those who knew Dr Cain professionally, she was a doctor who cared for her patients. For her family, she was a much-loved woman whose life extended far beyond the circumstances now being examined in court.
As the case moves forward, many questions about that night remain unanswered publicly. The court process will examine the evidence, while her loved ones continue to grieve.
