“EVERY PARENT’S WORST NIGHTMARE”: MUM GRIEVES 11-YEAR-OLD MIYA DEAMER-JONES AFTER DEVASTATING FAMILY LOSS
The youngest of four sisters, Miya was described as a precious little girl whose place in her family could never be filled. Her death has left her mother and sisters facing an unimaginable loss.
A family in Worcestershire is facing heartbreaking grief after 11-year-old Miya Deamer-Jones was found dead near a village cricket ground, just hours after she was reported missing.
Miya, from Elmley Castle, was reported missing at approximately 11:20 p.m. on Sunday, October 4, 2026. Her body was later discovered in a park near the village cricket ground.
The news devastated the close-knit community and prompted an outpouring of tributes for a young girl whose life had barely begun.
But behind the headlines is a family now struggling to imagine a future without their beloved daughter and little sister.
“HER PLACE IN THEIR FAMILY CAN NEVER BE FILLED”
In a fundraising appeal organised by a childhood friend of Miya’s mother, Katie Jones, the family’s loss was described in deeply personal terms.
Miya was the youngest of four sisters, a cherished child who was deeply loved by her mother and three sisters.
The appeal explained that the family was facing the painful task of arranging a funeral and seeking support to provide Miya with a lasting memorial.
“A mum should never have to make funeral arrangements for her child,” the fundraiser stated.
The words captured the devastating reality confronting Katie: having to say goodbye to her youngest daughter while also supporting her other children through their grief.
The appeal asked people to help with funeral expenses and a gravestone, giving the family a special place where they could remember Miya.
ANOTHER LOSS FOR A GRIEVING FAMILY
Miya’s father died from cancer three years before her death, according to media reports.
His loss had already been a painful chapter in the family’s life. Now, the death of their youngest girl has brought another devastating bereavement.
Those close to the family have rallied around Katie and her daughters, hoping to ease some of the practical pressures they face while they mourn.
The fundraising appeal has also given people outside the village an opportunity to show their support, with donations and messages of sympathy arriving from members of the public.
A VILLAGE UNITED IN SADNESS
Elmley Castle has been left deeply shaken by Miya’s death.
Flowers and other tributes were left near the area where she was found, as residents tried to make sense of what had happened.
West Mercia Police initially described her death as unexplained while officers carried out enquiries. On October 7, police confirmed that they had found no evidence of suspicious circumstances or third-party involvement and that the death was not being treated as a criminal investigation.
A file has been prepared for the coroner to consider the circumstances of her death.
Police have also urged people not to share speculation online, stressing the additional distress unverified claims can cause a family already experiencing profound grief.
“YOU WERE LOVED, YOU ARE LOVED”
The fundraising appeal ended with a message that reflected the love surrounding Miya, even in the face of a loss that words cannot repair.
“Fly high, beautiful Miya,” it read. “You were loved, you are loved, and you will never be forgotten.”
For Katie and her three daughters, the pain of losing Miya cannot be measured by donations, tributes or headlines. They are grieving a child whose place in their family was unique and irreplaceable.
As the community continues to offer support, the message from those closest to Miya remains simple: she was deeply loved, and her memory will remain with the people who knew her.
Miya was only 11. Her family now faces the difficult days ahead, holding on to the memories of the little girl they will always love.
