HUSBAND OF DR HANNAH CAIN APPEARS AT CROWN COURT CHARGED WITH MURDER AS HEARING REVEALS FIVE CHILDREN WERE AT THE FAMILY HOME
DERSINGHAM, NORFOLK — The husband of respected Norfolk GP Dr Hannah Cain has appeared at Crown Court charged with her murder, as proceedings revealed that five children were at the family home when emergency services were called.
Mark Cain, 45, appeared by video link from prison at King’s Lynn Crown Court on Thursday, October 8. He confirmed his name during the brief hearing but was not asked to enter a plea.
His wife, Dr Hannah Cain, 45, was known professionally as Dr Hannah Terry. She was found unresponsive at the couple’s home in Fern Hill, Dersingham, during the early hours of Sunday, October 4.
Court Hears Children Were Inside the Home
Prosecutor Steven Ball told the court that the alleged incident took place on October 3 and continued into the early hours of the following morning.
The court heard that the couple’s three children, aged eight, 11 and 13, were upstairs at the time. Two other children, aged eight and 10, were also staying at the property for a sleepover.
Emergency services attended the address after a call for help. Dr Cain was found unconscious and unresponsive in an upstairs bedroom.
The court was also told that a post-mortem examination recorded blunt-force injuries to her head and neck injuries consistent with compression. The findings were presented as part of the proceedings concerning the circumstances of her death.
Husband Remanded in Custody
Mark Cain was not asked to enter a plea at the Crown Court hearing, and no application for bail was made.
Judge Mr Justice Lickley remanded him in custody until a plea hearing provisionally scheduled for December 3 at Norwich Crown Court. No provisional trial date was set at that stage.
The case remains before the courts. The murder charge is an allegation, and Mark Cain is entitled to a fair trial.
Family Pays Tribute to a Beloved Doctor
Following Hannah’s death, her family described her as “kind, generous and loving”, paying tribute to the care she gave both her loved ones and her patients.
Dr Cain worked as a general practitioner at Grimston Medical Centre and had more than 15 years of experience as a qualified doctor, including eight years as a GP. She also operated a cosmetic-treatment business, Norfolk Sky Aesthetics.
Her work brought her into the wider medical community around the Sandringham area, where she was reportedly among a pool of doctors available to provide care to members of the Royal Family when they stayed nearby.
Her death has deeply affected those who knew her personally and professionally. Colleagues and loved ones have remembered her dedication to medicine and the compassion she showed to patients.
As the legal process moves towards the next hearing, the family continues to face the loss of a mother and doctor whose life touched many people.
The next scheduled court milestone is the plea hearing in December. Until proceedings conclude, the allegations must be considered through the judicial process, with the presumption of innocence preserved.
