THE REMARKABLE JOURNEY OF A BABY WHO DEFIED ALL ODDS
A baby girl from Liverpool has deeply moved her family and doctors after surviving a rare, severe condition that experts believed would take her life shortly after birth. Aniyah Todd was born on July 7 with a large encephalocele, a serious defect where brain tissue protrudes through the skull. During pregnancy, her young parents, Charlotte Youds and Will Todd, were given the heartbreaking news that their daughter was missing roughly 90% of her brain and had virtually no chance of survival.

The diagnosis was first detected during a 13-week ultrasound, which revealed that one of Charlotte’s unborn twins had severe brain abnormalities. Expecting that Aniyah might never breathe on her own, her parents prepared for the worst. When she was born at Liverpool Women’s Hospital, she initially struggled for air, leading her grief-stricken parents to say their final goodbyes. However, Aniyah kept breathing against all expectations.
At just one day old, she underwent emergency brain surgery. Despite facing setbacks while being taken off a ventilator, Aniyah continued to fight. Miraculously, six days after birth, she was discharged home to join her twin sister, Sophia. She even surprised medical staff by pulling out her feeding tube and taking meals independently.

By four months old, Aniyah was lifting her head, smiling, laughing, and reacting to music. The twins formed a deep, comforting bond, bringing immense joy to their family. Though her long-term future requires ongoing neurosurgical monitoring, her parents cherish every milestone, celebrating a life that was once thought impossible.
