LATEST FROM COURT: HUSBAND OF DR HANNAH CAIN APPEARS AT CROWN COURT CHARGED WITH MURDER AS HEARING REVEALS CHILDREN WERE INSIDE THE HOME

Mark Cain appeared by video link from prison at King’s Lynn Crown Court after being charged with the murder of his wife, beloved Norfolk GP Dr Hannah Cain, known professionally as Dr Hannah Terry. The hearing heard that three of the couple’s children and two other children were at the family home when she was found unresponsive.

DERSINGHAM, NORFOLK — The case surrounding the death of Dr Hannah Cain has reached another stage, with her husband appearing at Crown Court following the murder charge.

Mark Cain, 45, appeared via video link from prison at King’s Lynn Crown Court on Thursday, October 8. He confirmed his name during the brief hearing but was not asked to enter a plea.

The judge remanded him in custody ahead of a plea hearing scheduled for December 3, provisionally at Norwich Crown Court. A provisional trial date was not set.

CHILDREN WERE INSIDE THE FAMILY HOME

The court heard that Dr Cain, 45, was found unresponsive in an upstairs bedroom at the family property in Fern Hill, Dersingham, in the early hours of Sunday, October 4.

Emergency services were alerted at around 2:25 a.m. Prosecutors said children were present in the property at the time.

According to reports, the house had been hosting a sleepover involving the couple’s three children and two of their friends. The children’s presence has added to the distress surrounding the case, although public reports have not established that they witnessed what happened.

The property is located close to the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk.

During the earlier proceedings, prosecutors told the court that a post-mortem examination had recorded blunt-force injuries to the right side of Dr Cain’s head, along with neck injuries consistent with compression.

These details were presented as part of the prosecution’s account. The criminal proceedings remain active, and the allegations against Mark Cain have not been determined at trial.

Cain was previously remanded in custody after appearing before Norwich Magistrates’ Court on October 7. His subsequent appearance at King’s Lynn Crown Court marked the next procedural step in the case.

REMEMBERING DR HANNAH TERRY

Dr Cain was known professionally as Dr Hannah Terry and worked as a GP at Grimston Medical Centre. She had also operated Norfolk Sky Aesthetics, a cosmetic-treatment business.

Her family released a tribute describing her as “kind, generous and loving”, remembering her as a beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend.

They also praised the care she gave to her patients, who knew her as Dr Terry, and asked for privacy as they come to terms with their loss.

Colleagues in the NHS community also paid tribute to her warmth, intelligence and dedication to medicine. The medical centre temporarily closed following the tragedy.

Mark Cain remains in custody. The next significant hearing is scheduled for December 3, when he is expected to enter a plea, subject to the court’s arrangements.

No trial date had been set in the reporting available at the time of publication. Further proceedings are expected to address the allegations through the criminal justice process.

The case has attracted considerable public attention because of Dr Cain’s work as a doctor, the family circumstances surrounding her death and the fact that children were present in the home.

For now, her family continues to grieve while the legal process moves forward. The court will determine the case based on the evidence presented, and the defendant remains entitled to a fair trial.
