“A 15-YEAR-OLD BOY AND HIS FATHER LEFT FIGHTING FOR THEIR LIVES” — MASKED MEN STORM FAMILY HOME IN SHOCKING NIGHT-TIME ATTACK
Imrane Chelirem, 15, and his father Mohamed were seriously injured when two masked men entered their family home in Leicestershire. Days later, police revealed a significant update about their condition as their community rallies around them.
A family in Thurnby, Leicestershire, is facing an unimaginable ordeal after a violent incident inside their home left a teenage boy and his father with life-threatening injuries.
Imrane Chelirem, 15, and his father, Mohamed, were injured when two masked men entered the property on Station Road shortly before 12:30 a.m. on October 8, 2026, and attacked the occupants.
Police were called following reports of a disturbance. Armed officers attended, but the suspects had already left the scene.
The teenager’s mother, a woman in her 40s, also sustained injuries to her hand and shoulder. She was treated in hospital and later discharged. Three other children who were inside the house were not injured.
A COMMUNITY WOKEN BY TERRIFYING NOISES
Neighbours described hearing shouting, screaming and loud banging during the early-morning incident.
One neighbour told reporters that the scene was deeply distressing, prompting residents to call emergency services when they realised the family needed urgent help.
Detectives from Leicestershire Police and the East Midlands Special Operations Unit launched an investigation to establish exactly what happened and identify those responsible.
Police initially described the incident as appearing to be a “completely unprovoked” attack. Investigators have said the motive remains unclear.
A HOPEFUL UPDATE ON THE FATHER AND SON
On October 14, police provided an important update: both Imrane and Mohamed remained in hospital receiving specialist treatment, but their conditions had stabilised.
Although the update offered a measure of hope, both continued to require medical care following the serious injuries they sustained.
Authorities also said there was no information at that stage to suggest the attack was racially or religiously motivated. Police added that they did not believe anyone beyond the two people who entered the property posed a wider risk to the public.
The investigation is continuing as officers work to locate the suspects.
FOOTBALL CLUB RALLIES AROUND IMRANE
Imrane is a much-loved member of Coalville Town Raptors, where he plays youth football.
Following the attack, the club shared an emotional message expressing its support for the teenager and his family. Teammates and members of the wider football community have been encouraged to stand together during what the club described as an incredibly difficult time.
A fundraising campaign was also launched, with the family’s permission, to help support them as they navigate the days ahead.
The club described Imrane as a young person full of life, personality and determination, emphasising that his friendships with teammates extend far beyond the football pitch.
POLICE CONTINUE SEARCHING FOR ANSWERS
Detectives have carried out extensive enquiries in the surrounding area, including searches for CCTV, doorbell recordings and dashcam footage that might help identify the two men.
Police are particularly interested in any suspicious activity or vehicles seen around Station Road and Somerby Road during the late evening of October 7 and the early hours of October 8.
Authorities have urged anyone with relevant information to come forward, stressing that even a seemingly minor detail could help advance the investigation.
No motive has been confirmed, and the full circumstances surrounding the attack remain under investigation.
For the family, the focus remains on recovery and supporting one another through an experience no household should have to endure.
As Imrane and his father continue receiving specialist treatment, their community is holding on to hope — while investigators work to answer the questions surrounding the attack and bring those responsible to justice.
