A FATHER’S UNWAVERING LOVE AND A NEW BEGINNING

A FATHER’S UNWAVERING LOVE AND A NEW BEGINNING
While many people avoided Kambou Sie because they feared his condition was contagious, his father never gave up on him. The young man from Côte d’Ivoire, affectionately known as Prosper, had developed a severe facial tumor that grew until it severely affected his vision and speech. The dramatic change in his appearance drew painful comments from strangers, and the resulting social isolation made an already challenging medical battle even harder to bear.

Despite the stigma, Prosper’s father continued searching tirelessly for help. His efforts eventually led them to a nun connected with the Liliane Foundation, who helped elevate their appeal. Through the charity Una Voce per Padre Pio, medical care was arranged for Prosper in Naples, Italy.
At the Pascale Cancer Institute, specialized doctors identified his condition as Burkitt lymphoma. His intensive treatment plan included chemotherapy, radiotherapy, a stem cell transplant, and subsequent reconstructive facial surgery. As the massive tumor began to shrink, Prosper gradually started looking toward a future beyond hospital walls.

Reports show that Prosper returned home to Côte d’Ivoire in December 2017 after his cancer was successfully treated. Rather than simply returning to school, he set ambitious goals for his second chance at life. He enrolled in vocational training to become a certified electrician, working hard to build a career and secure his independence. The young man who was once shunned by his community was now gaining the skills needed to create a meaningful future. His father’s persistent search had bridged continents and languages to give him hope.
