“I’M NOT THRILLED ABOUT THAT” — SIR TOM JONES REPORTEDLY REJECTS NEW ROLE ON THE VOICE UK AFTER 13 YEARS
The music legend is reportedly turning down a reduced guest role after his departure from the coaching panel, raising fresh questions about whether fans will ever see him return to the famous red chair.
Sir Tom Jones’ future with The Voice UK appears to have taken another unexpected turn.
After 13 years as one of the singing competition’s most recognisable coaches, the 86-year-old music legend has reportedly declined an offer to return in a reduced capacity as a special guest judge.
According to The Sun, ITV had hoped to keep Tom involved in the programme through occasional appearances after removing him from the full-time coaching line-up. However, sources cited by the newspaper claim that discussions became difficult, with Tom and his team reportedly unhappy about how the departure was handled.
FIVE WORDS THAT SAID IT ALL?
When news first emerged that he would not return as a full-time coach, Tom made his feelings clear in a statement shared on Instagram.
Among his comments were five words that captured his disappointment: “I’m not thrilled about that.”
Tom was referring to the proposed reduced role, which he said would involve making appearances without being part of the competition from the beginning.
He also made clear that leaving the programme had not been his choice. He said ITV had made the decision and explained that he had been given “financial difficulty with insurance” as the reason.
The singer added that ITV had also spoken publicly about wanting to refresh the coaching line-up.
ITV THANKS THE MUSIC LEGEND
Tom’s departure marks a significant change for a programme he has been associated with since its launch in 2012, apart from a break during one series.
ITV has thanked the Welsh singer for his contribution, praising the unforgettable moments he brought to the show and the joy he gave audiences and contestants.
The broadcaster previously said it remained in discussions with Tom and his team about possible involvement beyond his full-time coaching role.
However, the latest report suggests that a guest appearance may no longer be on the table. ITV has not publicly confirmed the reported rejection.
A NEW ERA FOR THE VOICE UK
The next series is set to feature a refreshed panel, with Cheryl and Aitch joining returning coach Kelly Rowland and long-standing coach will.i.am. Alesha Dixon and Stacey Solomon are also set to host.
The changes have prompted discussion among viewers who grew accustomed to seeing Tom’s unmistakable presence in the red chair.
For many fans, his appeal went beyond his legendary voice. His warmth, experience and distinctive personality helped make him a familiar part of the programme over the years.
Whether he will ever appear on The Voice UK again remains uncertain. For now, the reported decision appears to signal that Tom is not ready to accept a smaller role simply for the sake of returning.
After more than a decade on the show, one question remains: can The Voice UK feel the same without Sir Tom Jones?
