He retrieved his legally owned handgun and entered the building, where the gunman had already opened fire inside a classroom.
It was an extraordinarily dangerous decision. His own daughters attended Silver Rail, making the unfolding emergency deeply personal.
Inside the classroom, a teacher had already attempted to fight back against the attacker. By the time Giamanco arrived, the teacher was struggling with the teenager.
Giamanco then shot the gunman, killing him before police officers reached the classroom.
