“WE’VE REACHED THE END OF RUBY’S ROAD” — FARMER ROB’S HEARTBREAKING GOODBYE TO A MUCH-LOVED HORSE

For the team at Cannon Hall Farm, Ruby was more than just a horse. She was a familiar face, a cherished animal, and a part of farm life that thousands of followers had come to love.

At Cannon Hall Farm in South Yorkshire, life has always brought a mixture of joy, hope, and heartbreak. But Ruby’s story has been especially difficult for Farmer Rob Nicholson and the many people who followed her journey.

The much-loved Shire mare faced serious health problems after giving birth to her foal in May 2026. What began as a joyful moment soon turned into a desperate fight to save her life.

Ruby developed severe colic and required specialist veterinary treatment. She was taken to Rainbow Equine Hospital, where vets worked to treat her condition. Although there were moments of hope during her recovery, her health later deteriorated again.

In July, Farmer Rob shared the heartbreaking news that Ruby could no longer continue without serious suffering.

“We’ve reached the end of Ruby’s road, unfortunately,” he explained in an emotional update.

The decision to say goodbye was made with Ruby’s welfare at the centre of it all. Rob said he trusted the judgement of the farm’s equine vet, Marco, and could not justify prolonging her suffering.

For someone who had spent so much time caring for Ruby, it was an incredibly painful decision.
