MISSING MISSOURI COUPLE FOUND DEAD ON NEIGHBORING PROPERTY AFTER MORE THAN A MONTH — A DOG IS ALSO FOUND ALIVE NEAR THE SCENE

Leo Lindeman, 73, and his wife, Katherine, 74, disappeared from their rural home near Anderson in September. Two bodies were discovered in a wooded area just hundreds of yards away, bringing a heartbreaking development to the weeks-long search.

The search for an elderly Missouri couple who vanished from their rural home more than a month ago has taken a tragic turn after authorities discovered two bodies on a neighboring property.

Leo Lindeman, 73, and his wife, Katherine Lindeman, 74, had not been seen since September 15, 2026, and were believed to have disappeared the following day, according to the McDonald County Sheriff’s Office.

The couple lived near Anderson, Missouri, with their small white poodle, Itty Bitty. Their disappearance prompted weeks of searches involving relatives, law enforcement officers, search dogs and drone operators.

On Sunday, November 1, authorities received a report that a deceased person had been found on private property near the 4500 block of East State Highway 76 in Anderson.

When a deputy arrived, a second body was discovered nearby in a heavily wooded area. The location was adjacent to the property of a couple who had previously been reported missing.

Sheriff Rob Evenson told local media that the bodies were found approximately 400 to 500 yards from the Lindemans’ home. However, the sheriff’s office said formal identification was still pending autopsies and confirmation by the county coroner and medical examiner.

A DISCOVERY THAT RAISED MORE QUESTIONS

According to the sheriff’s office, dispatchers received the call at approximately 4 p.m. on November 1 from a property owner who had discovered one of the deceased individuals.

A deputy responding to the scene located the second body nearby. Detectives and forensic personnel were then sent to examine the wooded area and collect evidence.

The discovery marked a major development in a case that had left relatives and investigators searching for answers for weeks.

Although local reports identified the deceased couple as Leo and Katherine Lindeman, the sheriff’s office’s initial public statement said their identities had not yet been formally confirmed.

Authorities have not released a cause of death or explained how the couple came to be on the neighboring property.

THE MISSING DOG WAS ALSO FOUND ALIVE

One unexpected detail emerged from the sheriff’s office statement: a living dog was found close to one of the deceased individuals.

The department did not publicly confirm whether the dog was Itty Bitty, the Lindemans’ missing white poodle.

Earlier reports had said the couple’s dog had not been located. The discovery of a living dog near the scene therefore raised fresh questions about the pet’s whereabouts and what happened during the couple’s disappearance.

Authorities have not provided further details about the animal.

WEEKS OF SEARCHES BROUGHT FEW ANSWERS

Leo and Katherine were formally reported missing on September 24, more than a week after their last known sighting.

The couple was known to keep to themselves, which Sheriff Rob Evenson previously said made their absence less immediately alarming to people in the area.

As concern grew, investigators obtained a search warrant for the couple’s home. Deputies examined the residence, collected electronic devices and other potential evidence, and processed parts of the property for fingerprints.

Family members also organized extensive searches.

Leo’s niece, LaShawnda Lindeman, previously described how relatives initially searched the property with help from a private drone operator. A search-and-rescue team and a tracking dog later joined the effort.

Additional family members returned the following day with the sheriff’s office and another search company. The operation included two more drones, three additional search dogs and a larger group of searchers.

LaShawnda said approximately 15 acres were thoroughly searched, but the family initially found no sign of Leo or Katherine.

INVESTIGATION CONTINUES AS FAMILY AWAITS ANSWERS

Before the discovery, Sheriff Evenson had described the investigation as frustrating because of the lack of meaningful evidence and reliable leads.

Investigators had also examined the couple’s financial records and electronic devices in an effort to reconstruct their movements and determine what might have happened after they disappeared.

The discovery of the two bodies has now shifted the investigation toward identifying the deceased and establishing the circumstances surrounding their deaths.

As of the latest official statement, authorities have not announced a cause of death or confirmed whether foul play was involved. Further information is expected once the autopsies and identification process are completed.

For the Lindeman family, the discovery brings a devastating development after weeks of uncertainty. But important questions remain unanswered: how did the couple end up on a neighboring property, what happened during the weeks they were missing, and was the dog found at the scene their beloved Itty Bitty?

The sheriff’s office says the investigation remains ongoing.
