DIAGNOSED WITH HLHS AT 20 WEEKS, BABY BELLE’S TINY HEART IS FIGHTING FOR A CHANCE AT LIFE

Diagnosed before she even entered the world, baby Belle Harper began her life facing a challenge no child should ever have to endure.

At just 20 weeks in the womb, doctors discovered that Belle had Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) — a severe congenital heart defect that prevents the heart from functioning normally. From that moment, what should have been a joyful pregnancy for her parents, Olivia and Ethan, became a journey filled with uncertainty, fear, and constant medical care.

“When we heard the diagnosis, everything changed overnight,” Olivia shared softly. “You dream about bringing your baby home… not about surgeries and hospital rooms.”

Belle was born into urgency. Instead of the quiet comfort of home, her first days were spent surrounded by machines, doctors, and the steady rhythm of hospital life. Within a short time, she had already undergone multiple surgeries — each one necessary just to keep her alive.

Despite everything, Belle continues to fight with a quiet strength that has inspired everyone around her.

“She’s been through more in a few months than most people face in a lifetime,” Ethan said. “But she still finds a way to smile. That keeps us going.”

Doctors have made it clear that while the surgeries have helped, they are only part of the journey. Belle will ultimately need a heart transplant to survive long-term. For now, her family waits — holding onto hope with every passing day.

In the middle of hospital visits and medical uncertainty, Olivia and Ethan try to create small moments of joy for their daughter.

Her mother shared how much Belle loves simple things — soft blankets, tiny outfits, and especially watching her favorite Baby Einstein aquarium toy light up and move.

“It may seem like something small,” Olivia said, “but seeing her eyes light up… it means everything to us. It gives her a little piece of normal childhood.”

The family has learned to treasure every smile, every quiet moment, and every small victory.

“All we want is for her to have a chance,” Ethan added. “A chance to grow up, to laugh, to live the life she deserves.”
