A MASSIVE LYMPHATIC TUMOR AT BIRTH THREATENED AIDEN’S AIRWAY — BUT A LIFE-SAVING SURGERY AT JUST 3 DAYS OLD CHANGED EVERYTHING

A baby boy, Aiden, faced a life-threatening situation at birth due to a giant tumor compressing his airway. Doctors worked together to provide emergency care and perform surgery when he was only 3 days old, saving the boy from a critical condition.

This was the case of Aiden. According to his family, during a routine ultrasound at 6 months of pregnancy, the mother discovered a tumor on the right side of her neck. The tumor grew larger, occupying space in her face, neck, and chest.

On November 15th, at 36.5 weeks of gestation, doctors decided to terminate the pregnancy to prevent the tumor from rupturing and endangering both mother and child. Doctors worked together to intubate the infant to support breathing before cutting the umbilical cord and removing him from the womb.

After birth, weighing 4 kg, the baby was transferred to a higher-level hospital for monitoring and treatment. Based on test results and imaging, doctors diagnosed the tumor as a lymphatic malformation occurring during pregnancy.

After three days of monitoring, the child’s condition worsened, with internal bleeding causing the tumor to grow larger, compressing the airway and displacing the child’s head.

Following a consultation, the doctors decided to surgically remove the tumor. On November 18th, after four hours of intensive surgery, the lymphatic tumor, weighing 1.1 kg, was successfully removed.

It is expected that after the child fully recovers, doctors will continue to monitor and treat the tumor to prevent recurrence. The child will undergo physical therapy and rehabilitation to ensure normal development like other children.
