Six-Year-Old Lucas Should Be Enjoying Summer Break, But His Family Is Now Searching for Hope After a Devastating Brain Tumor Diagnosis
Six-year-old Lucas Monreal should be talking about kindergarten memories, summer plans, and the small joys that come after finishing a school year.
Instead, his family is facing words no parent is ever prepared to hear.
Just days ago, Lucas was a student at Col. Ben Narbuth Elementary in El Paso, Texas, finishing kindergarten like any other child his age. Then a hospital visit changed everything. Doctors diagnosed him with DIPG, a rare and aggressive brain tumor known as one of the most devastating childhood cancers.

The tumor cannot be surgically removed. Treatment options are limited. And for families who hear that diagnosis, life can feel like it stops in a single moment.
Now Lucas’s parents, Alejandra and Luis, are doing what any mother and father would do. They are searching for hope anywhere they can find it. His family says they are researching experimental treatments and clinical trial options in Seattle and Houston, determined to explore every possible chance for their little boy.
Alejandra, Lucas’s mother, is a graphic design teacher at Eastlake High School. Luis, his father, serves the community as an El Paso firefighter. They have both spent their lives helping, teaching, and protecting others. Now they are the ones facing an emergency that no family should ever have to endure.

At the center of it all is Lucas, a six-year-old child who should be enjoying the beginning of summer, not hospital rooms, medical uncertainty, and the fight of his life.
His family is asking for prayers, strength, and support as they move forward one day at a time. Please keep Lucas, his parents, and everyone who loves him in your thoughts.
The fundraiser link will be shared in the comments for anyone who wants to help his family search for treatment and fight for more time.
