HE SAID HIS WIFE WAS SUFFERING FROM POSTPARTUM DEPRESSION — THEN DETECTIVES FOUND A VERY DIFFERENT SCENE
When 37-year-old Lindsey Barnett was found inside her Lakewood, Colorado home on August 13, her husband allegedly gave investigators a devastating explanation.
Patrick Barnett reportedly told police that Lindsey had been struggling with postpartum depression and had taken her own life.
But investigators say the scene inside the home raised questions that could not simply be ignored.
THE BLOOD PATTERN DIDN’T MATCH THE STORY
According to the investigation, police found a significant amount of blood around the couple’s bedroom, along with a knocked-over plant and dirt leading toward the bathroom.
There was reportedly much less blood inside the bathroom itself.
Investigators also found a bloody footprint between the bedroom and bathroom.
That led detectives to question whether Lindsey’s body had been moved after she was injured.
Police also documented bruising on her arms and legs, with some injuries described as potentially defensive.
THEN DETECTIVES DISCOVERED ANOTHER DETAIL
Patrick had allegedly been involved with another woman he met online.
According to PEOPLE, the woman told investigators that Patrick had said he and Lindsey were planning to divorce.
That information became another element investigators considered as they reconstructed the couple’s final days.
Lindsey’s mother also reportedly told police that while her daughter had experienced depression in the past, she had not appeared to be experiencing recent symptoms and had never previously attempted suicide.
A MOTHER, A WIFE — AND TWO CHILDREN LEFT BEHIND
The couple had welcomed their second child in February 2025.
Their two young children were reportedly inside the home when Lindsey died.
Patrick Barnett has now been charged with first-degree murder.
The allegations against him have not been proven in court.
HE SAID IT WAS SUICIDE.
DETECTIVES SAID THE SCENE TOLD A DIFFERENT STORY.
AND NOW A HUSBAND WHO INITIALLY CALLED FOR HELP IS FACING A MURDER CHARGE.
The case raises a haunting question:
WHAT REALLY HAPPENED INSIDE THAT HOME BEFORE THE 911 CALL?
As the case moves forward, investigators will have to establish exactly what happened — and whether the physical evidence can ultimately tell the story that the initial explanation could not.
