When Breelynn was born, she appeared to be a completely healthy baby following an entirely smooth and uncomplicated delivery. However, when she was still extremely young, her life was permanently altered after an individual with an active cold sore kissed her. Because a newborn infant’s immune system is not yet fully developed, the cold sore virus spread with frightening speed throughout her body, ultimately reaching and severely damaging her brain.

As the years have passed, the devastating consequences of that single moment have reshaped her entire existence and the lives of those who love her. Today, Breelynn faces profound physical and neurological challenges. She is unable to walk or communicate through speech, and her medical situation remains exceedingly fragile. Doctors do not expect her to reach adulthood due to the extent of her permanent injuries.

In the face of this heartbreak, her family has made the brave decision to share Breelynn’s story with the world. Their mission is to raise urgent awareness about the hidden dangers of kissing newborn infants, particularly on or near the mouth. They hope that by educating parents and relatives about how a common, mild infection in adults can trigger life-threatening complications in vulnerable newborns, they can prevent other families from suffering the same tragedy.
