MOTHER OF A66 CRASH VICTIM MAKES EMOTIONAL TRIBUTE REQUEST: “GIVE HIM THE SEND-OFF HE DESERVES”

The mother of 23-year-old Michael Cahill has made an emotional request to friends and supporters as she prepares to say goodbye to her son.

Cahill was one of five young men who lost their lives in the devastating A66 collision near Middlesbrough on August 22.

Now, his mother is asking mourners to come together for a final tribute — and she wants the gathering to reflect the way Michael was remembered by the people closest to him.

THE A66 TRAGEDY

Michael was travelling in a Volkswagen Passat with Cole Worthy, 17, Theo Rae, 17, Makai Saddington, 18, and Jakub Matusiak, 23.

The Passat was travelling the wrong way along the A66 when it collided with a marked Cleveland Police vehicle near South Bank in the early hours of August 22.

Two police officers, PC Matthew Blades, 37, and PC Tom Clough, 38, were also involved in the collision.

All seven people involved lost their lives.

The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation, including the police response and events leading up to the collision.
