BABY S WAS JUST A NEWBORN — NOW THE NUMBER OF WOUNDS FOUND ON HER TINY BODY HAS BEEN REVEALED IN COURT

She had only just entered the world.

But within hours, Baby S would become the centre of one of the most disturbing cases currently before a Sheffield court.

Prosecutors say the newborn suffered 33 wounds in 15 separate stabbings, with injuries to her face and torso, before she was found dead at a property in Wincobank, Sheffield. 

And what investigators discovered next has made the case even more shocking.

THE NEWBORN WAS FOUND ON A WASHING MACHINE

Baby S was not found simply lying inside the property.

According to evidence outlined in court, her body was found wrapped in a towel, placed inside a blue bag and left on top of a washing machine in an outhouse.

The discovery came after police were called to the Holywell Heights property on August 30 following concerns about the safety of an infant.

A forensic post-mortem later established that the baby’s cause of death was stab wounds. 

FOUR ADULTS NOW FACE MURDER CHARGES

Andrea Skopova, 20, who prosecutors identified as Baby S’s mother, has been charged with murder alongside Peter Horvath Jr, 19, Peter Horvath Sr, 38, and Nina Horvathova, 37.

The four adults also face charges of causing or allowing the death of a child and perverting the course of justice by allegedly taking steps to conceal the infant’s death.

A 15-year-old girl has separately been charged with perverting the course of justice. Her identity cannot legally be published. 

All five defendants have been remanded in custody.

THE CASE IS FAR FROM OVER

The court has already scheduled a trial for April 12, 2027, expected to last six to seven weeks.

Investigators have recovered a potential weapon and are examining CCTV as they continue piecing together what happened to the newborn.

Two other women, aged 26 and 37, who were previously arrested on suspicion of murder remain on bail. 

Police have urged the public not to speculate or share information online that could interfere with the legal proceedings.

For now, the allegations remain just that — allegations.

But one fact is already beyond dispute:

A newborn baby girl died after suffering 33 wounds.

And the question now before investigators and the courts is how — and why — such a tragedy was allowed to happen.
