BABY S’S BODY WAS HIDDEN AFTER HER DEATH — BUT WHERE POLICE FOUND THE NEWBORN HAS BECOME ONE OF THE MOST DISTURBING DETAILS OF THE CASE
A newborn baby girl was found dead in a Sheffield outbuilding after police were called over concerns for her safety.
But what officers discovered inside that property has become one of the most disturbing details of the case.
Baby S was found wrapped in a towel and placed inside a blue bag on top of a washing machine in an outhouse at a property on Holywell Heights, Wincobank, Sheffield, prosecutors told the court.
She had suffered 33 wounds from 15 separate stabbings, with injuries to her face and torso, front and back. A doctor told the court she would have been alive when the attack occurred.
Police were called on the morning of August 30 after concerns were raised about the safety of a newborn baby.
Officers initially attended an address connected to the concern before searching the Holywell Heights property, where Baby S was eventually located.
A forensic post-mortem later determined that the baby died as a result of stab wounds.
FOUR ADULTS NOW FACE MURDER CHARGES
Four people have been charged with the murder of Baby S:
- Andrea Skopova, 20, identified in court as the baby’s mother
- Peter Horvath Jr, 19
- Peter Horvath Sr, 38
- Nina Horvathova, 37
The four also face charges of causing or allowing the death of a child and perverting the course of justice by allegedly taking steps to conceal what happened.
A 15-year-old girl has separately been charged with perverting the course of justice and cannot legally be identified. Two other women, aged 26 and 37, were arrested on suspicion of murder but remain on bail.
ONE DETAIL THE COURT STILL DOES NOT KNOW
Prosecutors told the court that Skopova had given birth to Baby S at 37 weeks in the early hours of August 30.
But the identity of the baby’s father remains unknown.
Peter Horvath Jr is Skopova’s boyfriend and the son of Peter Horvath Sr and Nina Horvathova, but prosecutors said he is not believed to be the baby’s father.
The four adult defendants remain in custody.
Their trial has been scheduled to begin on April 12, 2027, and is expected to last six to seven weeks. Their next hearing is set for October 2.
Investigators have also recovered a potential weapon and CCTV footage as they continue examining what happened inside the property.
For now, the most haunting question remains unanswered:
How did a newborn baby come to be concealed in an outbuilding — wrapped in a towel, inside a blue bag, on top of a washing machine — after suffering fatal injuries?
That question will now form part of a complex criminal case in which the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
