11-year-old dead after e-scooter crash in Katy, authorities say

– A child has died after suffering severe injuries in an e-scooter crash in Katy, according to the Katy Independent School District.

The 11-year-old child was struck by a vehicle while riding an e-scooter on a roadway on Thursday afternoon in the 26600 block of Roesner Road, according to the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office.

In an update on Friday afternoon, Katy ISD confirmed the child, who attended Tays Junior High School, had died.

Officials on Friday said that the child was crossing the intersection of Roesner Road and Elk Ridge Lane when the collision happened. The driver stayed at the scene.

Authorities first reported that the child’s injuries were so severe that they required transport by medical helicopter.

Officials urged families to teach bicycle and scooter safety following the tragic accident.
