The identity of Baby S’s mother has now been revealed in court — and the detail has added another shocking layer to the heartbreaking Sheffield case.
Britain is still grappling with the disturbing case surrounding the death of a newborn girl in Sheffield, after prosecutors revealed that the baby’s mother is among those accused in connection with her death.
The baby, known only as Baby S, was found dead at a property in the Wincobank area of Sheffield on August 30.
And when the case reached court, one of the most important questions surrounding the newborn was finally answered.
THE BABY’S MOTHER WAS NAMED IN COURT
Prosecutor Luke Hopkinson told Sheffield Magistrates’ Court that Andrea Skopova, 20, was the mother of Baby S.
Skopova is among four adults charged with murder.
The other three are Peter Horvath Jr, 19, Peter Horvath Sr, 38, and Nina Horvathova, 37.
All four also face charges relating to causing or allowing the death of a child and perverting the course of justice. The allegations have not been proven in court.
But another question remains unanswered.
THE FATHER IS STILL UNKNOWN
The court heard that the identity of Baby S’s father is currently unknown.
Skopova is the girlfriend of Peter Horvath Jr, but prosecutors said he is not believed to be the baby’s father.
That revelation immediately became another major focus of the case as investigators continue trying to establish the full circumstances surrounding the newborn’s death.
WHAT HAPPENED TO BABY S?
The newborn was discovered in an outbuilding at a property on Holywell Heights.
Prosecutors told the court that she had suffered 33 wounds from 15 separate stabbings, with injuries to her face and torso.
Her body was reportedly found wrapped in a towel and placed inside a blue bag on top of a washing machine.
A forensic post-mortem examination later identified the cause of death as stab wounds, according to the Crown Prosecution Service.
The details have shocked the local community, with flowers and tributes left near the property.
A FIFTH DEFENDANT
The case also involves a 15-year-old girl, who cannot legally be named because of her age.
Unlike the four adults, she has been charged with perverting the course of justice, rather than murder.
She appeared separately in court and was remanded into youth custody.
Two other women, aged 26 and 37, were also arrested on suspicion of murder but remain on bail.
TRIAL SET FOR 2027
The four adults and the 15-year-old appeared at Sheffield Crown Court on September 3.
The defendants were remanded in custody, with the next hearing scheduled for October 2.
A trial has been provisionally set to begin on April 12, 2027, and is expected to last between six and seven weeks.
For now, many questions remain unanswered — including exactly what happened inside the Sheffield property, who was responsible for the baby’s injuries, and why the scene was allegedly concealed.
