Parker Mitchell was just days away from starting middle school when a family outing ended in a heartbreaking tragedy in upstate New York.

An 11-year-old New York boy has died after the go-kart he was riding with his younger sister overturned into a pond, leaving him trapped underwater.

Parker Mitchell, from Greece, New York, was riding with his 8-year-old sister, Teagan, in the town of Darien when the accident happened Sunday afternoon.

According to authorities, the go-kart rolled into a nearby pond and Parker became trapped beneath it.

Family members and firefighters managed to free the boy and performed CPR before he was airlifted by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

He later died from his injuries.

The exact cause of the crash has not been determined.

HIS LITTLE SISTER SURVIVED

Teagan was able to escape from the overturned go-kart.

The 8-year-old was treated at the scene before being reunited with her family.

For those closest to Parker, however, the tragedy came just days before another important milestone in his young life.

He was due to begin middle school.

Instead, his family and friends are now preparing to say goodbye to a boy remembered for his warmth, kindness and adventurous spirit.

‘A REMARKABLE ABILITY TO MAKE PEOPLE FEEL WELCOME’

Parker’s obituary described him as a child with a “curious spirit and a wonderful sense of adventure.”

His family said he loved spending time with friends and relatives and had a remarkable ability to make people feel welcome.

He was also a promising young athlete who played youth football and baseball.

Parker was a passionate Buffalo Bills fan, enjoyed video games and loved exploring the outdoors.

His family remembered him as someone who excelled at the things he cared about — but, above all, as a kind-hearted boy whose presence made an impression on others.

“His life was short, but his impact will last forever,” his obituary said.

CLASSMATES REMEMBER THEIR FRIEND

News of Parker’s death has also deeply affected his school community.

Classmates and friends have paid tribute to the young athlete as his family faces the unimaginable loss.

An online fundraiser has been established to help Parker’s family through the tragedy, with more than $66,000 raised as of Monday, according to reports.

For a family that expected to watch an 11-year-old begin a new chapter at middle school, the days ahead will instead be filled with memories of the child they loved.

Parker’s story is now being remembered not only for the tragedy that ended his life, but for the kindness and joy his family says he brought to the people around him.
