An 11-year-old boy has died after a go-kart he was riding with his younger sister overturned into a pond in upstate New York.
Parker Mitchell, from Greece, New York, was driving the go-kart with his eight-year-old sister, Teagan, when the vehicle suddenly rolled over and entered the water.
Parker became trapped underwater as the overturned kart pinned him beneath it.
HIS SISTER ESCAPED
Teagan, 8, was able to escape from the wreck and was treated by emergency responders at the scene before being reunited with her family.
Parker was pulled from the pond by paramedics and rushed to Strong Memorial Hospital.
Despite efforts to save him, he later died from his injuries.
The tragedy came just days before Parker was due to begin middle school.
REMEMBERED AS A LOVING BOY
Parker’s family described him as a kind-hearted child with a curious personality and a strong sense of adventure.
He was a promising young athlete who played youth football and baseball and loved spending time with friends and relatives.
His family also remembered his love of exploring the outdoors, playing video games and supporting the Buffalo Bills.
His obituary described a boy who had a remarkable ability to make people feel welcome.
“His life was short, but his impact will last forever,” his family said.
FAMILY RECEIVES SUPPORT
A GoFundMe campaign has been established to support Parker’s family following the devastating loss.
The fundraiser had collected more than $66,000 as of the latest report.
The accident has left Parker’s family and community mourning a young boy whose life was cut short just as he was preparing to begin a new chapter at middle school.
For those who knew him, Parker is now being remembered not for the tragedy that took him, but for the kindness, energy and adventurous spirit he brought into the lives of those around him.
