THE VOICE UK UNVEILS SHOCK ‘LOCKDOWN’ TWIST AFTER TOM JONES EXIT — EVERYTHING IS CHANGING

THE VOICE UK IS ABOUT TO LOOK VERY DIFFERENT — AND THE BIGGEST CHANGE COULD COMPLETELY ALTER THE BLIND AUDITIONS

Fans of The Voice UK are facing a major shake-up when the hit ITV singing competition returns, with a brand-new “Lockdown Button” set to change what happens when a contestant turns all four coaches’ famous red chairs.

The dramatic format change comes just days after ITV confirmed a completely revamped coaching and presenting lineup — including the departure of longtime coach Sir Tom Jones.

And the new twist could take away one of the most important decisions contestants traditionally make on the show.

Under the new format, the Lockdown Button will come into play when a singer achieves the coveted four-chair turn.

Normally, once all four coaches turn around, the contestant gets to hear the coaches make their pitches before deciding which team they want to join.

That is now set to change.

According to reports, one of the coaches will be able to press the new Lockdown Button, immediately securing the contestant for their team.

That means the singer could lose the chance to choose between the four coaches.

Instead, the decision could effectively be taken out of the contestant’s hands by the coach who manages to activate the button first.

The new feature replaces the Rewind Button, which was introduced during the current series but will not return for the next season.

For viewers, it creates a completely different kind of suspense.

Instead of waiting to discover which coach a four-chair-turn singer will choose, audiences could now be watching to see which coach makes the first move — and whether the singer gets locked into a team before hearing the other coaches’ pitches.

The format overhaul comes at the same time as one of the biggest lineup changes in the show’s history.

Sir Tom Jones, 86, will not return for Series 15 after spending years as one of the programme’s most recognisable coaches.

Jones was part of the original coaching era when The Voice UK launched in 2012 and became one of the show’s defining personalities.

ITV confirmed his departure while announcing the new lineup, describing him as an “irreplaceable” part of the programme and thanking him for the many memorable moments he had given viewers and contestants.

But Jones himself gave a different account of how the split happened.

In a statement reported by multiple outlets, the Welsh music legend said he did not want to leave and claimed ITV had made the decision.

He said he had initially been told the decision was connected to financial difficulties involving insurance, while ITV subsequently described the changes as part of a desire to refresh the programme.

Jones also said ITV had offered him a reduced role rather than a full coaching position — an arrangement he said he was not happy with.

A COMPLETELY NEW COACHING PANEL

Taking over from the departing coaches will be Cheryl and platinum-selling rapper Aitch.

They will join returning coaches Kelly Rowland and will.i.am.

Cheryl, formerly of Girls Aloud, is returning to primetime television in a major new role, while Aitch will make his debut as a Voice UK coach.

Kelly Rowland, meanwhile, is returning for her second series, while will.i.am remains the longest-standing member of the new panel.

The result is a coaching lineup that looks dramatically different from the one audiences have become accustomed to.

And behind the scenes, filming for the new series is already underway.

THE HOSTING TEAM IS CHANGING TOO

The changes do not stop at the famous red chairs.

Longtime host Emma Willis is leaving The Voice UK, while Alesha Dixon and Stacey Solomon are taking over as co-hosts.

Willis is moving on to a major new presenting role on Strictly Come Dancing, while Dixon and Solomon will bring a two-presenter format to the next series.

Meanwhile, Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones are also leaving the coaching lineup.

That means viewers will be introduced to an almost entirely different version of the programme when Series 15 arrives.

WILL.I.AM’S EMOTIONAL REACTION TO TOM’S EXIT

The changes have already generated a strong reaction from inside the show.

will.i.am, who has been part of The Voice UK since its earliest days alongside Tom Jones, was reportedly emotional while filming the upcoming series.

According to reporting from The Sun, the Black Eyed Peas star became tearful while discussing Jones’ departure and said he had received Tom’s blessing to continue with the programme.

The reaction has added another emotional layer to what is already one of the biggest transformations The Voice UK has undergone.

A NEW ERA FOR THE VOICE UK

ITV has framed the overhaul as a fresh chapter for the programme, bringing together what it describes as a new generation of musical talent and personalities.

Series 15 is scheduled to air in 2027.

But before the new season even reaches viewers, one thing is already clear:

The familiar Voice UK formula is changing.

The red chairs remain.

The Blind Auditions remain.

The four-chair turn remains.

But now, when a contestant manages to make all four coaches turn around, everything could change in a single second.

One button.

One coach.

One decision.

And suddenly, the singer may no longer be the one deciding where they belong.
