And tonight, his father is sharing something the family has been waiting months to see:

Progress.

Xavier has been unresponsive since May 26, when a baseball struck him in the neck during warmups before a championship game in New Jersey. He collapsed and suffered cardiac arrest.

Nearly four months later, his family says there are signs his body is getting stronger.

According to WPVI reporter Trish Hartman, Xavier has been moved from the hospital to a short-term care facility. He is no longer receiving regular medication beyond what is necessary for nutrition and care.

“He’s regulating his own body temperature,” his father, Gregory Taylor, told WPVI.

“He’s off the extra electrolyte fluids because his lab work is coming back and it’s beautiful.”

And Gregory says the physical changes are becoming impossible for the family to miss.

“He has gained weight,” he said. “When we look at Xave every day, we see Xavier. We don’t see that frail boy from May and early June.”

For a family that has spent months beside their son’s bedside, those changes mean something.

But they are still waiting for the moment they want more than anything:

At 5 p.m. Eastern today, Xavier’s family and supporters will gather at Karcher Field in Maple Shade, New Jersey, for a Night of Prayer & Praise.

And the prayer won’t be limited to one field.

Churches, prayer groups, families and individuals across the country and around the world are being asked to stop at the same moment and pray for Xavier.

You don’t have to be in New Jersey.

You can pray from your home.

From your church.

From your car.

From a hospital room.

Or gathered around your kitchen table with the people you love.

At 4 p.m. Central, wherever you are, say Xavier’s name.

Pray for his brain and body to heal.

Pray for continued progress.

Pray for strength for his parents.

And pray for the moment his family has been waiting for since May:

“Xavier, wake up.” 🙏

Gregory says he often imagines what his son might say when that moment finally comes.

“I honestly think one of the first things he’s going to say is, ‘What did I miss?’”

And his father already knows what he wants to tell him.

“How about we show you what you’ve done.”

Because Xavier’s story has already reached far beyond one family.

His No. 6 has appeared on jerseys.

Teams have honored him.

Communities have gathered.

Buildings have turned blue.

And thousands of people who have never met this 12-year-old have stopped to pray for him.

Now, in just a few hours, those voices will come together again.
