MUM-OF-THREE DIES AFTER SEPTIC TANK TRENCH COLLAPSES IN LIMERICK

A mother of three has died after a trench being prepared for a septic tank collapsed on top of her in County Limerick, Ireland.

Elizabeth “Liz” Lynch, who was in her 40s and from the Newcastle West area, was pronounced dead at the scene in Kilmeedy on Friday, September 18.

The trench was reportedly being dug as part of preparations for a septic tank when it suddenly collapsed, trapping Ms Lynch.

Despite efforts by people at the scene, she could not be saved. Gardaí confirmed that a woman in her 40s was pronounced deceased at the location following what they described as a fatal workplace incident.

INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED

Gardaí attended the scene before the matter was referred to Ireland’s Health and Safety Authority (HSA) for further investigation.

The HSA confirmed that it was aware of the incident and had launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

No further details about the circumstances of the trench collapse have been publicly released.

TRIBUTES POUR IN FOR ELIZABETH

News of Ms Lynch’s death has prompted an outpouring of grief across the local community.

She was involved in coaching young girls in sport and was a member of Monagea Ladies Gaelic Football Club, which suspended all club activities over the weekend as a mark of respect.

Newcastle West Town FC also postponed several local soccer fixtures following the sudden death of a female coach in the area.

The Limerick Desmond Soccer League expressed its condolences to Liz’s family and friends, while friends and neighbors described her as a much-loved member of the community.

One tribute remembered her while offering condolences to her three sons and wider family.

Local Fine Gael councillor Adam Teskey said the community was experiencing “immense mourning”, describing the tragedy as devastating for the area.
