Authorities released surveillance images showing a masked person outside Nancy’s home.

The individual appeared to be carrying a backpack and was captured near the property around the time investigators believe Nancy disappeared.

The FBI later released additional images and described the person as a male of approximately average build.

But despite the footage, authorities have not publicly identified the person.

That means one of the biggest questions remains unanswered:

WHY ANNIE AND TOMMASO BECAME THE FOCUS OF ONLINE SPECULATION

Annie and Tommaso became subjects of intense online discussion largely because they were among the last people known to have seen Nancy before she disappeared.

Another recent online claim alleged that Annie and Tommaso had been seen in North Carolina.

That report, too, remains unverified and has not been confirmed by authorities.

SO, WAS THERE A THIRD PERSON?

There is a documented sequence:

Nancy was home.

A masked individual was captured on surveillance.

Investigators believe Nancy was taken.

Her family was questioned and searched.
