BRITISH DAD, 44, DIES OF HEART ATTACK ON ANNIVERSARY HOLIDAY IN CYPRUS AS FIANCÉE FACES HEARTBREAKING TASK OF BRINGING HIM HOME

A British father has died suddenly during an anniversary holiday in Cyprus after suffering a heart attack on the very day he and his fiancée were due to fly home.

Paulo Brockway, 44, had been enjoying a romantic break with his fiancée, Kerry Debono, when their holiday took a devastating turn.

The couple had been preparing to return to the UK when Paulo suddenly became unwell.

He suffered a heart attack and died the following day, September 17, after complications.

His unexpected death has left Kerry facing the heartbreaking task of bringing her fiancé home to Cardiff while also trying to arrange his funeral.

‘HE PASSED AWAY THE FOLLOWING DAY’

In a fundraiser launched after Paulo’s death, Kerry described the shock of losing her fiancé while they were supposed to be travelling home.

She wrote that Paulo became ill on the day they were due to fly back to the UK.

He died the following day.

“He was just 44 years old. I am devastated and will miss him terribly.”

Kerry said the couple had travelled to Cyprus to celebrate their anniversary and had been making memories together before the tragedy.

Their holiday had been expected to end with a flight home.

Instead, Kerry was left mourning the man she planned to return home with.

FAMILY ‘ABSOLUTELY HEARTBROKEN’

Paulo’s death has also devastated his wider family.

He leaves behind a son, who the family says is struggling with the loss of his father.

His mother, sisters and brother are also mourning his death.

Family member Emma Mills described the situation as being particularly difficult because Paulo and Kerry had been enjoying their holiday before everything suddenly changed.

The family said they were in complete shock following his death.

For Kerry, the loss has been made even harder by having to deal with the practical arrangements surrounding his death thousands of miles from home.

PASSION FOR MOUNTAIN CLIMBING

In the years before his death, Paulo had developed a strong passion for mountain climbing.

According to Kerry, he had taken up the hobby around three years ago and quickly became deeply passionate about it.

He also used his climbs to raise money for charity.

Kerry said the challenge of reaching each summit gave Paulo something to look forward to, with every mountain becoming a new goal.

The activity had become an important part of his life and something that brought him considerable happiness.

His family now hopes those memories will remain part of how Paulo is remembered.

FAMILY FACES £7,000 FUNERAL COST

Kerry has launched a GoFundMe appeal to help cover the cost of Paulo’s funeral and repatriation.

She said Paulo did not have life insurance, leaving the family facing significant unexpected expenses following his death.

The funeral is expected to cost around £7,000.

His body is expected to be repatriated from Cyprus to Cardiff within approximately seven to 10 days, allowing his loved ones to begin making funeral arrangements in the UK.

The fundraiser initially set a target of £3,000.

Kerry appealed for help from anyone willing to donate or share the family’s story.

“Any donation, no matter how small, would mean so much to us and would help us give Paulo the farewell he deserves.”

‘I WILL LOVE AND MISS YOU FOREVER’

Kerry ended her fundraising appeal with a deeply personal message to the man she had expected to return home with.

She wrote:

“I will love and miss you forever, Paulo.”

She signed the message:

“Forever your broken-hearted fiancée, Kerry.”

The fundraiser also describes Paulo as someone who wanted to use his passion for climbing to help other people through charitable fundraising.

A LIFE CUT SHORT AT 44

Paulo’s death has left his family facing a future they had not expected.

At just 44, he had been enjoying an anniversary trip with the woman he loved and looking forward to returning home.

Instead, his sudden illness turned what had been a celebration into a family tragedy.
