MISSING GUS LAMONT, 4, SEARCH ROCKED BY EAGLE NEST THEORY AS $1 MILLION REWARD IS OFFERED

Almost one year after four-year-old Gus Lamont vanished from a remote sheep station in South Australia, his family is preparing to search eagle nests on the property as authorities offer a $1 million reward for information that could finally explain what happened to him.

Despite one of the largest and most intensive missing-person searches ever conducted by South Australia Police, no trace of the little boy has been found. Police have carried out 11 separate ground searches over 30 days, alongside extensive aerial operations involving aircraft, drones and specialist camera equipment.

GUS’S PARENTS MAKE HEARTBREAKING PUBLIC APPEAL

For the first time, Gus’s parents, Josh Lamont and Jess Murray, have spoken directly to the public in an emotional video appeal.

Jess said the family’s heartache had continued to grow as almost a year passed without answers.

She described Gus as a “beautiful, sweet and unique little boy” who loved music, stories and spending time in nature.

Josh said the family desperately wanted their son home and urged anyone who knows anything to come forward.

The couple believe somebody may have information about what happened to Gus.

Their appeal comes just days before the first anniversary of his disappearance. During the time he has been missing, Gus should have celebrated his fifth birthday, while his younger brother also reached an important milestone without him.

$1 MILLION REWARD ANNOUNCED

South Australian authorities have now offered a reward of up to $1 million for information.

According to South Australia Police, the money may be paid for information that leads to the conviction of the person or people responsible for Gus’s disappearance and/or the recovery of his remains.

Police described the reward as a significant step in an investigation that has continued for almost a year.

South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas said the disappearance had deeply affected the state and urged anyone with information to come forward.

Police Minister Michael Brown also appealed to anyone who may know something about the case to speak with investigators.

NEW AERIAL CLUES COULD TRIGGER ANOTHER SEARCH

Although previous searches have failed to locate Gus, detectives say their investigation is not over.

Investigators have identified “anomalies” in aerial imagery taken during the search. Police have not publicly said what those anomalies show, but they could lead to another targeted search of the enormous property.

Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke, who leads South Australia’s Major Crime Investigation Branch, said investigators remained focused on finding answers.

Police have previously said their investigation does not support the theory that Gus simply wandered away or was abducted by an unknown person.

Instead, investigators have maintained a focus on the possibility that someone known to Gus may have been involved in his disappearance and suspected death.

FAMILY CONSIDERS SEARCHING EAGLE NESTS

One of the most unusual theories surrounding the case has now returned to the spotlight.

Gus’s grandmother, Josie Murray, has said the family is preparing to search eagle nests on the property because of a theory that a wedge-tailed eagle could have carried the child away.

The theory has not been endorsed by police and remains a family theory rather than an established explanation for Gus’s disappearance.

Murray has previously expressed frustration over the investigation and has spoken publicly about her belief that investigators should continue exploring different possibilities.

NO TRACE AFTER A YEAR OF SEARCHING

Gus was reportedly last seen playing outside the family property at around 5pm on September 27, 2025.

About half an hour later, family members went to check on him and discovered he was missing.

The remote location and enormous size of the property made the search particularly challenging.

Police have conducted extensive ground and aerial operations but have so far found no definitive evidence revealing Gus’s whereabouts.

Now, with the first anniversary approaching, investigators are once again asking the public to think carefully about anything they may have seen, heard or been told.

Gus’s parents have stressed that people should not assume a piece of information is too insignificant to report.

Their message is simple: if you know something, come forward.
