GUS LAMONT DISAPPEARED WITHOUT A TRACE — ONE YEAR LATER, POLICE OFFER $1 MILLION REWARD AS FAMILY MAKES HEARTBREAKING PLEA

One year after four-year-old Gus Lamont vanished from his family’s remote property in South Australia, police have offered a reward of up to $1 million for information that could finally reveal what happened to him.

Despite one of the largest and most intensive missing-person searches ever undertaken by South Australia Police, no trace of the little boy has been found.

Now, as the anniversary of his disappearance approaches, Gus’s parents are making an emotional appeal for anyone with information to come forward.

“SOMEONE KNOWS WHAT HAPPENED TO GUS”

In a video message released this week, Gus’s parents, Josh Lamont and Jess Murray, described their son as a “beautiful, sweet, and unique little boy.”

Josh said the family believes someone knows what happened.

“Someone knows what happened to Gus, and may even know where he is.”

He said the family is desperate for answers and to bring their son home.

Jess said Gus’s disappearance had been the most devastating and inexplicable event the family had ever experienced.

She also spoke about the milestones Gus has missed during the year he has been gone — including his fifth birthday and his younger brother’s first birthday.

The family said Gus loved music, stories and playing outdoors.

THE LAST TIME GUS WAS SEEN

Gus was last seen at around 5 p.m. on September 27, 2025, playing outside his family’s property.

About 30 minutes later, his grandmother went outside to call him in for dinner.

He was gone.

The sprawling Oak Park Station covers a huge area of remote terrain, making the search extremely challenging.

Police, emergency personnel, specialist teams, volunteers and other agencies conducted extensive searches of the surrounding area.

Investigators searched land, waterways, mine shafts and other possible locations, while aircraft, drones and specialist equipment were also deployed.

POLICE NOW TREAT THE DISAPPEARANCE AS A MAJOR CRIME

In February 2026, South Australia Police formally declared Gus’s disappearance a major crime.

Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke said investigators had found no evidence that Gus simply wandered away.

Police also investigated the possibility that he had been abducted by a stranger, but said they found no evidence supporting that theory.

Instead, investigators shifted their focus toward the possibility that someone known to Gus was involved in his disappearance and suspected death.

Police have stressed that Gus’s parents are not the focus of that investigation.

$1 MILLION REWARD ANNOUNCED

On September 23, South Australia Police announced a reward of up to A$1 million.

The money is available for information that leads to the conviction of the person or people responsible for Gus’s disappearance and/or the recovery of his remains.

Detective Superintendent Fielke described the reward as a major step in the investigation.

“$1 million is a life changing amount of money for anyone who can assist in this investigation.”

Police are urging people who may have information — even information they believe is insignificant — to contact Crime Stoppers.

NEW CALLS POUR IN AFTER REWARD

The reward has already generated a response.

South Australia Police said that within a day of the announcement, 34 calls and two emails had been received through Crime Stoppers.

Investigators said all of the information was being assessed and would be investigated further where appropriate.

Police also received nine additional calls in the days leading up to the reward announcement following increased media coverage.

“ANOMALIES” FOUND IN AERIAL IMAGES

Investigators may also have another potential lead.

Task Force Horizon detectives recently completed a detailed manual examination of aerial imagery collected during previous searches around Oak Park Station.

Detective Superintendent Fielke said investigators had identified “some anomalies” in the imagery.

Police have not revealed exactly what those anomalies are because the investigation remains active.

The images are now being reviewed, and depending on the findings, investigators could return to Oak Park Station for another search.

A SEARCH THAT HAS ALREADY COVERED HUNDREDS OF SQUARE KILOMETRES

The investigation has involved an extraordinary search operation.

Police have conducted 11 individual ground searches over 30 days, alongside aerial operations involving PolAir, drones and aircraft equipped with specialist camera systems.

The search has covered vast areas of difficult outback terrain.

Police have also previously examined nearby dams, mine shafts, wells and other locations, but no trace of Gus has been discovered.

HIS FAMILY IS STILL WAITING

A year has passed since Gus disappeared.

His parents say the family continues to live with the same unanswered question:

What happened to their little boy?

“We miss Gus more than we can describe,” Josh said.

“We are desperate to have him return home to us. And we are desperate for answers.”

Detective Superintendent Fielke has promised that investigators will continue working on the case.

“We’re going to continue to thoroughly and meticulously investigate the disappearance of Gus until we get a resolution.”

For Gus’s family, the hope remains that someone, somewhere, knows what happened — and that the new $1 million reward will finally encourage that person to speak.
