BRITISH DAD, 44, DIES DURING ANNIVERSARY HOLIDAY IN CYPRUS AS FIANCÉE FACES HEARTBREAK

A British father has died suddenly during what was supposed to be a romantic anniversary holiday in Cyprus, leaving his fiancée heartbroken and his family facing the devastating task of bringing him home.

Paulo Brockway, 44, from Cardiff, Wales, became seriously ill on the day he and his fiancée, Kerry Debono, were due to fly back to the UK.

He died the following day, September 17, 2026, after suffering a cardiac arrest following pancreatitis, according to Kerry.

The couple had travelled to Cyprus to celebrate their three-year anniversary.

Instead, their holiday ended in tragedy.

“I JUST CAN’T BELIEVE IT’S ALL HAPPENED”

Kerry described herself as devastated by Paulo’s sudden death.

“I just can’t believe it’s all happened,” she told BBC Wales. “I’m absolutely devastated, heartbroken and my heart is in a million pieces.”

She said the couple had been enjoying their time together and had even talked about returning to Cyprus to get married.

According to Kerry, Paulo had fallen in love with the island.

“He said ‘this is the place we need to get married’,” she recalled.

The couple had also placed a lock on a bridge in Cyprus as a symbol of their relationship.

A SUDDEN MEDICAL EMERGENCY

Kerry said Paulo suddenly became ill on the day they were supposed to return home.

Doctors in Cyprus told her that he had suffered a cardiac arrest following pancreatitis, which she said had previously gone undiagnosed.

Despite medical treatment, Paulo died the following day.

His sudden death left Kerry facing a reality neither of them had expected when they arrived for their anniversary trip.

The couple had travel insurance, which Kerry said would cover hospital expenses and the repatriation of Paulo’s body.

However, she explained that the family still faced the cost of his funeral.

A FATHER, FIANCÉ AND LOVED ONE

Paulo leaves behind a son, as well as his mother, sisters and brother.

Kerry said the loss had devastated the entire family.

“He had so much to live for and he was just gone in the blink of an eye,” she said.

She described Paulo as someone who had been thriving and looking forward to life.

Over the previous three years, he had also developed a passion for mountain climbing.

According to Kerry’s fundraising appeal, Paulo climbed mountains for charity and enjoyed setting himself increasingly difficult challenges.

FAMILY RAISES MONEY FOR HIS FUNERAL

Because Paulo did not have life insurance, Kerry launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the cost of his funeral.

The fundraiser says the funeral is expected to cost around £7,000.

At the latest available update, the campaign had raised approximately £2,490 from 82 donations toward its £3,000 target.

Kerry said Paulo’s body was expected to be repatriated from Cyprus to Cardiff within seven to 10 days so that the family could begin making funeral arrangements.

She thanked everyone who had donated, shared the appeal or simply taken the time to read Paulo’s story.

“I WILL LOVE AND MISS YOU FOREVER”

In her fundraising message, Kerry left an emotional tribute to the man she had expected to spend many more years with.

She described herself as his “forever broken-hearted fiancee” and ended her message with a simple declaration:

“I will love and miss you forever, Paulo.”

What began as a celebration of three years together in a place they had come to love ended with an unexpected loss.

Now, as Paulo’s family prepares to bring him home to Cardiff, those closest to him are remembering a father, son, brother and fiancé whose life ended suddenly at just 44.
