WADE WILSON REMAINS ON DEATH ROW AS LEGAL APPEAL CONTINUES IN DOUBLE-MURDER CASE

Wade Wilson remains on Florida’s death row as his legal battle continues more than two years after he was sentenced to death for the murders of two women in Cape Coral.

Wilson, now incarcerated at Union Correctional Institution in Raiford, Florida, was sentenced to death in August 2024 after a jury convicted him of murdering Kristine Melton, 35, and Diane Ruiz, 43, in October 2019.

Despite widespread attention surrounding the case, there is currently no publicly confirmed execution date or active execution warrant for Wilson. His death sentence remains under direct appellate review in the Florida Supreme Court.

TWO WOMEN KILLED IN ONE NIGHT

The killings occurred on October 7, 2019, in Lee County, Florida.

Prosecutors said Wilson first encountered Kristine Melton at a bar in Fort Myers. He later accompanied her to her home, where prosecutors said he killed her.

Later that same day, Wilson encountered Diane Ruiz, who was walking to work.

According to the prosecution’s case, Wilson lured Ruiz into a vehicle before killing her.

The two killings became the central focus of Wilson’s 2024 capital murder trial.

Wilson was ultimately found guilty of multiple charges related to both deaths, and the jury recommended death sentences for each murder. A judge subsequently imposed two death sentences.

THE APPEAL

Wilson’s case remains before the Florida Supreme Court, where his direct appeal challenges his convictions and death sentences.

His attorneys have raised constitutional and procedural arguments concerning the way his capital sentences were imposed.

The case received oral argument before the Florida Supreme Court on February 5, 2026, as Wilson’s defense continued its effort to overturn the death sentences. Recent public court records do not show that an execution date has been set.

The distinction is important because social-media posts have periodically claimed that Wilson has already been given an execution date or that an execution is imminent.

As of September 26, 2026, those claims are not supported by the current death-warrant records.

The Death Penalty Information Center’s latest 2026 warrant database lists several Florida prisoners with active execution dates, but Wade Wilson is not among them.

A CASE THAT HAS ATTRACTED INTENSE ONLINE ATTENTION

Wilson’s appearance and the circumstances of his case have generated an unusual level of online attention.

He has been widely referred to on social media as the “Deadpool Killer,” a nickname connected to his first and middle names rather than any relationship to the Marvel character.

His heavily tattooed face and courtroom appearances have also contributed to his visibility online.

The attention has extended well beyond traditional true-crime audiences, with social-media discussions focusing on his appearance, tattoos and personal life rather than solely on the victims and the legal proceedings.

That online phenomenon has itself become part of the broader story surrounding the case.

NO EXECUTION DATE HAS BEEN SET

For now, however, the legal process remains the central development.

Wilson remains incarcerated on Florida’s death row while the state’s highest court considers his direct appeal.

Florida has carried out numerous executions in 2026. The Death Penalty Information Center reported that 28 executions had been carried out nationwide by September 24, including multiple executions in Florida.

But Wilson’s name does not currently appear among prisoners with an active Florida execution date.

That means that, despite repeated claims circulating online, there is no confirmed date for Wilson’s execution as of September 26, 2026.

His death sentences remain in place, but the appellate process has not yet reached its conclusion.
