WADE WILSON: WHERE THE “DEADPOOL KILLER” STANDS NOW AS DEATH SENTENCE APPEAL CONTINUES

Wade Wilson remains on Florida’s death row more than seven years after the murders of two women in Cape Coral — and despite renewed public interest in his case, no execution date has been set.

Wilson, who became widely known online as the “Deadpool Killer” because of his name, was convicted of murdering Kristine Melton, 35, and Diane Ruiz, 43, on October 7, 2019.

A Lee County jury found him guilty of two counts of first-degree murder in 2024. A judge subsequently sentenced him to death for both killings.

His case has since attracted renewed attention through documentaries and Netflix’s Worst Ex Ever, but his legal proceedings remain ongoing.

TWO MURDERS IN ONE DAY

The killings happened within hours of each other in October 2019.

According to evidence presented during Wilson’s trial, he met Kristine Melton at a bar in Fort Myers before going back to her home.

Prosecutors said Wilson strangled Melton while she was asleep.

Later that day, Wilson encountered Diane Ruiz, who was walking to work.

Authorities said he persuaded her to get into his vehicle before killing her and abandoning her body.

The two killings became the central evidence in the capital murder case that eventually resulted in Wilson receiving two death sentences.

THE 2024 TRIAL

Wilson’s trial began in Lee County in June 2024.

After hearing evidence about both murders, jurors convicted him of two counts of first-degree murder.

The sentencing phase attracted significant attention, particularly because prosecutors presented evidence concerning Wilson’s conduct and statements surrounding the killings.

In August 2024, the court imposed two death sentences.

Wilson was subsequently transferred to Florida’s death-row system at Union Correctional Institution in Raiford.

HIS DEATH SENTENCE HAS NOT MEANT AN IMMEDIATE EXECUTION

Despite the death sentences, Wilson does not currently have an execution date.

Florida death-penalty cases go through multiple stages of judicial review before an execution can take place.

Wilson’s direct appeal reached the Florida Supreme Court, where his attorneys challenged aspects of his convictions and death sentences.

The case was argued before the court in February 2026.

But the hearing ended abruptly after Wilson’s attorney acknowledged that recent Florida Supreme Court decisions had undermined the arguments the defence intended to make.

His legal team then halted that portion of the challenge.

THE APPEAL PROCESS CONTINUES

The February hearing did not result in an execution date.

Wilson remains incarcerated while his legal proceedings continue.

As of the latest available reporting, there is no scheduled execution date for Wilson.

That distinction is important because Florida has continued to carry out executions in 2026, including several executions earlier this year. Wilson is not listed among those with an active execution warrant.

WHY HIS CASE HAS DRAWN SO MUCH ATTENTION

Wilson’s case received another wave of public attention in 2026 after his story appeared in two major true-crime productions.

Paramount+ released Handsome Devil: Charming Killer in January.

Netflix subsequently featured Wilson in the season-two premiere of Worst Ex Ever, titled “Dating the Deadpool Killer.”

The renewed exposure brought his crimes and legal status to a much larger international audience.

The attention has also generated extensive online discussion surrounding Wilson, his appearance, his tattoos, his relationships and his death sentence.

However, much of the online conversation should be distinguished from the official court record.

WHERE IS WADE WILSON NOW?

Wilson remains incarcerated at Union Correctional Institution in Raiford, Florida, which houses male prisoners on the state’s death row.

He is serving two death sentences for the murders of Melton and Ruiz.

There is currently no public execution date.

His future therefore remains tied to the outcome of the continuing legal process rather than to a scheduled execution.

THE CASE IS STILL MOVING THROUGH THE COURTS

For now, the most important development is not an execution announcement but the continuing legal review of Wilson’s convictions and sentences.

His direct appeal has already reached Florida’s highest court, and the February 2026 proceedings showed how quickly legal arguments can change as courts issue new decisions.

At the same time, Florida continues to carry out executions in other cases, making the distinction between being sentenced to death and having an execution date particularly important.

Wilson has the former.

He does not currently have the latter.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

The next significant development will depend on the remaining stages of Wilson’s legal proceedings.

Unless and until Florida authorities issue a death warrant and an execution date, there is no scheduled date for Wilson to be executed.

For now, the man whose case became an international true-crime story remains behind bars on Florida’s death row — while his legal battle continues.
