NEWBORN BABY FOUND DEAD IN OUTHOUSE — 15 STABBING INJURIES REVEALED AT INQUEST
A heartbreaking case in Sheffield, England, has taken another devastating turn after an inquest heard new details about the death of a newborn baby girl.
The baby, previously known only as “Baby S” during court proceedings, has now been formally identified as Maria Skopova.
Maria was born on August 30, 2026, at a property in the Wincobank area of Sheffield.
She died on the very same day.
A DISCOVERY THAT LEFT THE COMMUNITY SHAKEN
Police were called to a property on Holywell Heights shortly after concerns were raised about the safety of a newborn.
Officers searched the property and found the baby in an outhouse.
Paramedics attended the scene, but Maria was pronounced dead.
A forensic post-mortem examination later determined that her death was caused by stab wounds.
At an earlier court hearing, prosecutors said Maria had been found on top of a washing machine inside the outbuilding.
33 WOUNDS AND 15 SEPARATE STABBINGS
The latest inquest hearing revealed the full extent of the injuries alleged in the case.
The coroner heard that Maria had suffered 33 wounds from 15 separate stabbing injuries.
These details are part of the evidence surrounding the ongoing criminal proceedings and have not been determined by a court at trial.
The revelation has brought renewed attention to the case, which has already deeply affected residents in the Sheffield community.
Flowers and tributes have been left outside the property where Maria was found.
FOUR ADULTS FACE MURDER CHARGES
Four adults have been charged with murder in connection with Maria’s death:
- Andrea Skopova, 20
- Peter Horvath, 19
- Peter Horvath, 38
- Nina Horvathova, 37
All four also face charges relating to causing or allowing the death of a child and perverting the course of justice.
A 15-year-old girl has separately been charged with perverting the course of justice and cannot legally be identified because of her age.
The Crown Prosecution Service has stressed that the defendants are entitled to a fair trial and that the charges are not findings of guilt.
THE TRIAL IS NOW SCHEDULED
The four adult defendants are expected to stand trial at Sheffield Crown Court, with proceedings currently scheduled to begin on April 12, 2027.
The trial is expected to last up to seven weeks.
Meanwhile, the inquest into Maria’s death has been adjourned until March 25, 2027, while the criminal proceedings continue.
A LIFE THAT HAD ONLY JUST BEGUN
Maria Skopova lived for only a matter of hours.
She had barely entered the world before her life ended, leaving behind a case that has now become the subject of a major criminal investigation and a forthcoming murder trial.
Authorities have urged the public not to speculate about the circumstances of Maria’s death while the legal process is ongoing.
For the community, flowers outside the Holywell Heights property have become a quiet tribute to a baby whose life was tragically short.
Maria’s name is now known. Her story is still being investigated — and the full circumstances surrounding her final hours will ultimately be examined in court.
