SHE WAS FULL OF LIFE — DANIELLE O’KEANE DIES DAYS AFTER WESTLIFE CONCERT

What was supposed to be a rare night out with friends has ended in unimaginable heartbreak for the family of Danielle O’Keane, a 37-year-old mother of two from Newry, Northern Ireland.

Danielle had travelled to Dublin to see Westlife perform at the 3Arena with friends. It was meant to be a special night — an opportunity for a woman who rarely went out to relax, enjoy music and spend time with people she loved.

But on the journey to meet her husband after the concert, a devastating road incident changed everything.

Danielle suffered a catastrophic brain injury and, after days in intensive care, died on October 1, 2026, surrounded by her family.

Danielle had travelled from Newry to Dublin with friends for the Westlife concert.

Her sister-in-law, Ashling O’Keane, said it was unusual for Danielle to go out.

“She doesn’t go out,” Ashling explained, describing the concert as a rare opportunity for Danielle to “let her hair down.”

After the show, Danielle and two other women decided to take a motorised rickshaw toward Dublin city centre, where they planned to meet Danielle’s husband Dave and the partners of the other women.

They expected the journey to take only a few minutes.

Instead, it became the final journey of Danielle’s life.

The incident happened at around 11 p.m. on September 26 in the North Wall Quay area of Dublin.

According to the family account reported by Irish media, the motorised rickshaw was travelling along a cycle lane when one of its wheels clipped a divider.

The vehicle overturned.

Danielle fell from the rickshaw and into the path of an approaching car, suffering a devastating head injury.

One of the other passengers was also injured, suffering injuries including a broken nose and broken teeth.

Gardaí have continued to investigate the exact circumstances of the collision.

They have appealed to anyone who was in the North Wall Quay area between approximately 10:30 p.m. and 11:15 p.m. that night and may have dashcam or other camera footage to come forward.

 “LIFE-ENDING” BRAIN INJURY

Danielle was rushed to Mater Misericordiae University Hospital in Dublin.

Her family was later told that her injuries were catastrophic.

Ashling described the situation as “surreal,” saying the family was suddenly facing something they had only ever imagined happening in films or television.

Danielle remained in intensive care and on life support while doctors carried out further assessments.

Her family continued to hope for a miracle.

But after several heartbreaking days, that hope turned into grief.

 HER FAMILY WAITED AND PRAYED

Throughout Danielle’s final days, her family remained by her side.

They described her as loving, selfless and completely devoted to her husband and children.

Her brother-in-law Derek said she was “full of life” and had an enormous amount of energy.

Her family had been desperately hoping she would somehow recover.

Instead, on October 1, they confirmed that Danielle had died from the injuries she sustained in the crash.

A MUM TO TWO LITTLE BOYS

Danielle leaves behind her husband Dave and their two young sons, Caolán, 5, and Cillian, 2.

Her family said her life revolved around her husband and children.

One of the most painful details to emerge was that Danielle and her family had been preparing for their first family holiday to Mallorca.

Their bags had reportedly already been packed.

The holiday was due to take place just days after the crash.

Instead of boarding a plane together, Danielle’s family was left mourning a wife and mother who had been looking forward to making memories with them.

WESTLIFE REACHED OUT

The tragedy also reached the band whose concert Danielle had attended that night.

Westlife reportedly contacted Danielle’s family after learning of the devastating crash.

The group had performed in Dublin shortly before the accident, during what had been an evening of celebration for Danielle and her friends.

The family was grateful for the support as they continued to sit beside Danielle during her final days.

A COMMUNITY RALLIES AROUND THE FAMILY

A fundraiser was launched to help Danielle’s family cope with the financial impact of the tragedy.

Within days, donations had climbed dramatically, reaching almost £150,000 according to The Irish News.

Earlier reports said the campaign had already passed £100,000, including a remarkable £50,000 anonymous donation.

The fundraiser was created to help Danielle’s family with bills and other expenses during an unimaginable period of loss.

Friends and relatives have also been sharing tributes online.

They remembered Danielle not simply for the tragedy that ended her life, but for the person she was — a loving wife, devoted mother and much-loved friend.

GARDAÍ CONTINUE THEIR INVESTIGATION

Danielle’s death has not brought the investigation into the collision to an end.

Gardaí are continuing to establish exactly what happened on North Wall Quay that night.

They have appealed to members of the public who may have witnessed the incident or captured relevant footage on dashcams or other cameras.

The investigation remains ongoing, and the exact circumstances surrounding the collision have not been fully established.

“SHE WAS THE BEST OF US”

As news of Danielle’s death spread, tributes poured in from those who knew her.

One friend described her as “the most amazing woman”, while another wrote that she was “the best of us.”

For her family, however, Danielle was much more than the woman at the centre of a tragic news story.

She was Dave’s wife.

She was Caolán and Cillian’s mum.

She was a daughter, sister, sister-in-law and friend.

And she was a woman who had simply wanted to enjoy a rare night out with friends before returning home to the family she loved.

Instead, her family is now preparing to say goodbye.

 REMEMBERING DANIELLE

Danielle’s death has left a family facing a future they never expected.

The concert that was supposed to be a happy memory has become forever connected to the night their lives changed.

Her children will grow up without the mother who was at the centre of their world.

Her husband will have to face the years ahead without the woman he expected to grow old beside.

And her family and friends will remember the woman they described as full of life, loving and selfless.

For Danielle’s loved ones, the tragedy is not defined only by how she died.

It is also about the life she had, the people she loved and the memories she should have had the chance to make.
