MACKALA HIGGINS CASE — MAN, 56, NOW CHARGED WITH MURDER AFTER WOMAN FOUND IN BIKE SHED

A major development has emerged in the case of Mackala Higgins, a 51-year-old woman whose body was discovered in a bike shed in Bournemouth earlier this year.

Richard Sean Ball, 56, from Bournemouth, has now been charged with murder, after investigators carried out further enquiries into Higgins’ death.

The new charge was authorised following consultation between Dorset Police and the Crown Prosecution Service. Ball is currently being held in custody and is due to appear at Southampton Magistrates’ Court.

Mackala Higgins was 51 when she was found at an address on Paddington Grove in Bournemouth.

Emergency services were called after concerns were raised about a woman’s body at the property. Despite efforts by paramedics and other emergency responders, Higgins was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her death initially led to an investigation focused on the handling and concealment of her body before detectives later pursued a murder charge.

BODY DISCOVERED IN A BIKE SHED

The case first came to public attention in July, when a court heard that Higgins’ body had allegedly been moved from a nearby flat and left inside a bike shed.

Earlier court proceedings heard that her body had reportedly been hidden behind a sofa at an address for a period of time before being moved.

The body was eventually discovered in the early hours of July 1, prompting emergency services and police to attend the residential area.

At that stage, the exact circumstances surrounding Higgins’ death remained unclear, and the cause of death had not been established publicly.

Ball was previously charged with preventing the lawful and decent burial of a dead body.

He had initially been arrested on suspicion of murder, but the investigation continued while detectives gathered additional evidence.

Now, following what police described as further and extensive enquiries, prosecutors have authorised the additional murder charge.

Dorset Police said the case remains active and urged the public not to post commentary that could potentially affect ongoing court proceedings.

 A RELATIONSHIP BEFORE THE TRAGEDY

Earlier court proceedings heard that Ball and Higgins had been in a relationship for approximately one year before her death.

The court was also told that Ball had previously accused Higgins of being unfaithful.

Those details formed part of the background presented during the earlier proceedings, but investigators have not publicly established a motive for Higgins’ death.

ANOTHER WOMAN ARRESTED

A woman in her 30s was also arrested during the investigation on suspicion of assisting an offender.

She has since been released under investigation while detectives continue their enquiries.

Police have not publicly accused her of involvement in Higgins’ death, and no charge against her has been announced.

 POLICE APPEAL FOR INFORMATION

Detective Chief Inspector Nicola Jenkins said investigators’ thoughts remain with Higgins’ family and loved ones.

Police have continued to update the family as the investigation progresses.

Detectives are asking anyone who may have information that could assist the investigation to contact Dorset Police, quoting occurrence number 55260097894.

Members of the public can also provide information anonymously through Crimestoppers.

 THE INVESTIGATION IS STILL DEVELOPING

The new murder charge represents a significant change in the case, but the allegations have not been proven in court.

Ball remains in custody and is due before magistrates as the criminal proceedings move forward.

Authorities have not publicly released a full explanation of how Higgins died, and investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding her final days.

For Mackala’s family and friends, the legal development may bring another difficult chapter as they wait for answers about what happened to her.

A woman’s body was discovered in a quiet Bournemouth residential area. Months later, a murder charge has now been brought.
