DOUBLE FAMILY TRAGEDY: 11-YEAR-OLD GIRL FOUND DEAD IN VILLAGE PARK HAD ALREADY LOST HER DAD TO CANCER THREE YEARS AGO — NOW HER HEARTBROKEN FAMILY IS WAITING FOR ANSWERS
Miya Deamer-Jones was remembered as a caring and cheerful girl who looked after her younger sisters. Her death has now brought unimaginable grief to a family that had already suffered a devastating loss.
The heartbreaking death of an 11-year-old girl has left a quiet Worcestershire village in shock — and revealed another devastating loss her family had already endured.
Miya Deamer-Jones, who was also known as Mia, was reported missing at around 11:20 p.m. on Sunday, October 4, after she failed to return home.
Her body was later found in the park near Elmley Castle Cricket Club, only around 200 metres from her home.
West Mercia Police are continuing to investigate and are treating her death as “unexplained.”
SHE HAD ALREADY LOST HER DAD
For Miya’s family, the tragedy comes after another devastating loss.
Her father is reported to have died from cancer around three years ago.
A source who knew the family said Miya had deeply missed her father since his death.
“He died at the family home,” the source said, according to The Sun.
Now, relatives are facing another loss that has left the family devastated.
“SHE LOOKED AFTER HER SISTERS”
Miya was one of four sisters and lived with her mother and at least one of her siblings in the village.
People who knew her have remembered her not only as a cheerful and cheeky child, but also as someone who cared deeply for others.
A person connected with her former primary school described her as a “beautiful, lovely girl” who looked after her sisters.
Another local described Miya as someone who showed care and compassion toward other children at school.
For those who knew her, she was much more than the young girl whose name suddenly appeared in news reports.
She was a daughter, a sister and a friend.
A VILLAGE NOW FILLED WITH TRIBUTES
Flowers, cards and soft toys have been left near a bench close to the police cordon.
Sunflowers were among the tributes left for Miya.
One heartbreaking message from a school friend said:
“You have no idea how much I miss you. You will always be a part of me and a part of my heart.”
Another message described Miya as a deeply loved little girl.
Residents have spoken of their shock at what happened in their normally quiet community.
POLICE URGE PEOPLE NOT TO SPECULATE
Miya’s death remains under investigation.
West Mercia Police said officers are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding her death and have urged people not to speculate.
In its latest update, the force confirmed that it is not currently trying to identify any third party involved and said there is no indication of a wider risk to the community.
That means details surrounding exactly what happened to Miya remain unknown.
Detectives are continuing their enquiries while specially trained officers support her family.
A SECOND UNIMAGINABLE LOSS
Three years ago, Miya’s family reportedly lost her father after his battle with cancer.
Now, they are grieving their 11-year-old daughter as well.
For a mother who had already watched her family suffer the loss of a father, the latest tragedy has brought another devastating chapter to their lives.
And for the village of Elmley Castle, the flowers now appearing near the cricket ground are a reminder of a young girl who should have had many more years ahead of her.
Miya was only 11.
She had friends who loved her, sisters she cared for and a family who will now have to face life without her.
More than anything, her loved oneswant answers — and they want Miya to be remembered for the bright, caring girl she was, not simply for the tragedy that took her away.
