HUSBAND OF BELOVED GP DR HANNAH CAIN APPEARS IN CROWN COURT — FIVE CHILDREN WERE INSIDE THE HOME, COURT HEARS

Mark Cain, 45, appeared by video link at King’s Lynn Crown Court charged with the murder of his wife, Dr Hannah Cain, who was known professionally as Dr Hannah Terry. The court heard that three of their children and two other children were at the family home during the incident.

DERSINGHAM, NORFOLK, ENGLAND — A case that has deeply affected a Norfolk community reached another stage on Thursday, October 8, when Mark Cain appeared at King’s Lynn Crown Court charged with the murder of his wife, respected general practitioner Dr Hannah Cain.

The 45-year-old defendant appeared by video link from prison and confirmed his name. He was not asked to enter a plea and remained in custody following the hearing.

Dr Cain, also known professionally as Dr Hannah Terry, was found dead at the couple’s home in Dersingham in the early hours of Sunday, October 4. Police said her body was discovered at a property on Fern Hill.

During the hearing, prosecutor Steven Ball told the court that the couple’s three children, aged eight, 11 and 13, had been upstairs. Two additional children, aged eight and 10, were staying at the house for a sleepover.

The court heard that emergency services attended the property and found Dr Cain unconscious and unresponsive.

According to the prosecution, a post-mortem examination recorded blunt-force injuries to her head and neck injuries described as consistent with compression. The findings were presented as part of the court proceedings and do not, by themselves, establish the defendant’s guilt.

The presence of children at the home has added to the sadness surrounding the case. Their privacy and well-being remain especially important as the legal process continues.

A FAMILY REMEMBERS “OUR BEAUTIFUL HANNAH”

Following her death, Dr Cain’s family released a tribute describing her as “kind, generous and loving.”

They said they were devastated by the loss of their beloved daughter, mother, sister, aunt and friend. They also praised the care she provided to her patients, who knew her professionally as Dr Terry.

The family asked the public to respect their privacy during an exceptionally difficult time.

Dr Cain worked at Grimston Medical Centre and also ran a cosmetics business. She had been a qualified doctor for more than 15 years and had worked as a GP for eight years, according to information reported by ITV News.

Her death prompted an outpouring of sympathy from people who knew her through her medical work and the local community.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

Mark Cain was remanded in custody until a plea hearing provisionally scheduled for December 3, 2026, at Norwich Crown Court. No provisional trial date was set at the October 8 hearing.

The charge remains an allegation, and the defendant is entitled to a fair trial. The proceedings will determine the case based on the evidence presented to the court.

For Dr Cain’s family, friends, patients and colleagues, the legal process continues against the backdrop of a profound personal loss.

As the case moves forward, the family’s tribute offers a reminder that behind the headlines was a doctor remembered for her kindness, her dedication to patients and the relationships she built throughout her life.

The investigation and court proceedings continue.
