HUSBAND OF DR HANNAH CAIN APPEARS AT CROWN COURT AS HE FACES MURDER CHARGE

Mark Cain appeared by video link from prison as the court heard that three of Dr Hannah Cain’s children and two other children were at the family home during the night she died.

DERSINGHAM, NORFOLK, UK — The case involving the death of Norfolk GP Dr Hannah Cain has reached a new stage, with her husband appearing at King’s Lynn Crown Court charged with her murder.

Mark Cain, 45, appeared by video link from prison on Thursday, October 8, and confirmed his name during the brief hearing. He was not asked to enter a plea, and no application for bail was made.

Dr Cain, 45, was known professionally as Dr Hannah Terry. She was found unresponsive at the family home in Fern Hill, Dersingham, during the early hours of Sunday, October 4. The property is located close to the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk.

Prosecutor Steven Ball told the court that Dr Cain’s three children, aged eight, 11 and 13, had been upstairs, while two other children, aged eight and 10, were staying at the house for a sleepover.

The court heard that emergency services attended the property and found Dr Cain unconscious and unresponsive.

A post-mortem examination recorded blunt-force injuries to her head and neck injuries consistent with compression, the prosecutor said. The details were presented as part of the court proceedings; the charge against Mark Cain has not been proven.

Dr Cain worked as a GP and was listed as a member of the team at Grimston Medical Centre. She also ran a cosmetics business, Norfolk Sky Aesthetics, and described herself as a caring and professional doctor.

Following her death, her family paid tribute to her as “kind, generous and loving,” remembering her as a beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt, daughter-in-law and friend. They also praised the care she gave to her patients and asked for privacy as they grieve.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

The judge remanded Mark Cain in custody until a plea hearing provisionally scheduled for December 3 at Norwich Crown Court. No provisional trial date was set at the hearing.

The proceedings remain active. Mark Cain is charged with murder and is entitled to a fair trial; the charge should not be treated as a finding of guilt.

As the legal process continues, Dr Cain’s family, colleagues and patients are left to mourn a woman remembered for her work as a doctor and her role in the lives of those close to her.
