HEARTBREAKING VILLAGE HORROR: BELOVED GP FOUND DEAD AT HOME WHILE HOSTING CHILDREN’S SLEEPOVER
Dr Hannah Terry, a respected GP and mother of three, was found dead at her Norfolk home in the early hours of Sunday. A man in his 40s has been arrested on suspicion of murder as police investigate what happened.
A quiet Norfolk village has been left devastated after a beloved doctor was found dead at her home while her children were reportedly hosting friends for a sleepover.
The woman has been identified locally as Hannah Cain, known professionally as Dr Hannah Terry, a GP in her 40s who worked at Grimston Medical Centre in King’s Lynn.
Emergency services were called to her home in Fern Hill, Dersingham, shortly after 2:20 a.m. on Sunday, October 4, 2026.
An ambulance crew attended first before police were called.
Dr Terry was pronounced dead at the scene.
Norfolk Police have now launched a murder investigation, while a man in his 40s has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody as detectives continue questioning him.
CHILDREN WERE REPORTEDLY STAYING AT THE HOUSE
The circumstances surrounding Dr Terry’s death have made the tragedy particularly distressing for the local community.
According to reports, she had been hosting a sleepover for her children’s friends at the family home when the incident occurred.
It is understood that the children who were staying at the property were later taken back to their families while officers established a cordon around the house.
Police have not publicly released details about what happened inside the property, and detectives have urged people not to speculate while the investigation remains at an early stage.
A RESPECTED DOCTOR AND MOTHER OF THREE
Dr Terry was known to patients as a caring and approachable GP.
She worked at Grimston Medical Centre on Congham Road in King’s Lynn and was also understood to have worked privately in the aesthetics sector.
Her sudden death has sent shockwaves through the practice and the wider community.
Grimston Medical Centre temporarily closed following the tragedy, telling patients that the practice was dealing with “extremely difficult circumstances affecting our practice team.” Staff also asked for privacy and understanding during what they described as an extraordinarily difficult time.
For many patients, the news was difficult to comprehend.
One tribute shared online described Dr Terry as a doctor who listened to people and helped them, while expressing sympathy for her children, family, friends and colleagues.
“SHE WAS JUST A LOVELY HUMAN BEING”
Neighbours have also spoken about their shock.
One resident described Dr Terry as “a lovely human being” and a devoted mother with three young children.
Another said the incident was almost impossible to believe in a village where residents felt safe.
The quiet community near the Sandringham estate has now become the centre of a major police investigation, with officers maintaining a cordon around the property.
Flowers have been left nearby as people struggle to process the sudden loss.
MAN ARRESTED AS POLICE SEARCH FOR ANSWERS
A man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of murder after police were called to the property.
He was taken to King’s Lynn Police Investigation Centre, where he remains in custody while detectives continue their investigation.
Police have obtained additional time to question him.
However, no charge has been reported at this stage, and an arrest on suspicion of murder does not mean the suspect has been found guilty of any offence.
Detective Inspector Alix Wright, of the Norfolk and Suffolk Major Investigation Team, said officers were still in the very early stages of establishing the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
She appealed to anyone who may have information that could assist the investigation to contact police.
POST-MORTEM EXAMINATION
A Home Office post-mortem examination was carried out as detectives worked to establish the circumstances and cause of Dr Terry’s death.
At the time of the latest reports, police had not publicly released a confirmed cause of death.
That means many of the questions surrounding the tragedy remain unanswered.
Investigators have continued working at the property, which remains part of the crime scene.
A VILLAGE LEFT IN SHOCK
Dersingham is a close-knit community, making the sudden death particularly difficult for residents.
Dr Terry was not simply a medical professional known to patients. She was also a mother whose children were at home during the tragic events.
Now, friends, neighbours, patients and colleagues are left remembering a woman described by those around her as kind and caring.
The medical centre where she worked has temporarily closed, while those closest to her begin to face an unimaginable loss.
Police continue to investigate exactly what happened in the early hours of October 4.
For now, the case remains under investigation.
A beloved GP is gone. A family is grieving. And an entire Norfolk community is waiting for answers about what happened behind the doors of a home that should have been filled with children, laughter and the ordinary sounds of family life.
