END OF AN ERA? STRICTLY COME DANCING FANS LEFT ASKING QUESTIONS AS BELOVED STARS STEP AWAY

After years of familiar faces, emotional farewells and major changes behind the scenes, the BBC’s much-loved ballroom competition is entering a new chapter. But one important detail may surprise fans: the judge’s panel is staying together.

LONDON, UK — Strictly Come Dancing has undergone one of its biggest shake-ups in years, leaving devoted viewers adjusting to a very different line-up as the 2026 series gets underway.

But despite speculation about a judge leaving the famous panel, the BBC’s published line-up confirms that Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke are all returning to their judging roles.

The changes are real—but they involve the show’s presenters and professional dancers rather than its judges.

Long-serving hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman announced their departure in October 2025, bringing an end to a partnership that had become a defining part of the programme.

Their replacements were revealed in May 2026: presenter Emma Willis, comedian Josh Widdicombe and professional dancer Johannes Radebe. The trio made their debut when the new series launched in September.

For viewers who had grown accustomed to Tess and Claudia’s familiar chemistry, the change marked a significant turning point.

FIVE PROFESSIONAL DANCERS ALSO SAY GOODBYE

The presenter changes were accompanied by a major reshuffle among the professional dancers.

Karen Hauer, the show’s longest-serving female professional, left after 14 years. Gorka Márquez, Nadiya Bychkova, Luba Mushtuk and Michelle Tsiakkas also departed ahead of the 2026 series.

Karen said she felt it was the right time to close that chapter and pursue new projects, while the departures prompted emotional reactions from fans who had followed the dancers’ journeys over many seasons.

Five new professional dancers joined the line-up, bringing fresh personalities and styles to the ballroom.

WHAT ABOUT THE JUDGES?

Despite the changes elsewhere, the familiar judging quartet remains in place.

Shirley Ballas continues as head judge alongside Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke. The BBC’s official programme information lists all four for the 2026 series.

That means reports suggesting a judge has officially stepped away should be treated cautiously unless a new announcement identifies the person and confirms the departure.

For now, the biggest confirmed changes concern the presenters and professional dancers—not a vacancy at the judges’ desk.

WILL FANS EMBRACE THE CHANGES?

With new hosts, new professional dancers and a refreshed presentation, Strictly Come Dancing is attempting to balance change with the familiar magic that has kept audiences returning year after year.

Some viewers may miss the personalities who helped shape earlier seasons, while others will welcome the opportunity to see new faces make the ballroom their own.

One thing remains certain: the glitterball continues to shine, and the 2026 competition is moving forward with its established judging panel.
