AT JUST 8 MONTHS OLD, MASON WAS DIAGNOSED WITH HIGH-RISK AML — A 𝚂𝙷𝙾𝙲𝙺𝙸NG JOURNEY THAT TURNED A SIMPLE COLD INTO A FIGHT FOR HIS FUTURE

What first appeared to be a simple cold soon turned into a life-changing diagnosis for eight-month-old Mason Lammers — a journey that no family is ever prepared for.
Mason began showing mild symptoms that his mother, Karli Doll, initially believed were nothing more than a common illness. But as days passed, his condition failed to improve. Instead, it worsened.

Within two weeks, his parents rushed him to Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge, hoping for answers.
What they received instead was devastating.
Blood tests revealed that Mason’s white blood cell count had dropped to just 500 — dangerously below the normal range. Doctors quickly realized something far more serious was happening.

Soon after, their worst fears were confirmed.
Mason was diagnosed with high-risk Acute Myeloid Leukemia, an aggressive form of cancer that develops rapidly and requires immediate treatment.
“You think, why us? It’s not fair,” Karli shared, recalling the moment their world was turned upside down.

Due to the severity of his condition, Mason was urgently transported by STARS air ambulance to Alberta Children’s Hospital in Calgary, where a specialized medical team began life-saving care.
From that moment on, Mason’s life became a fight.
His treatment plan included four cycles of intensive chemotherapy, along with nine blood transfusions — each one essential to keeping his small body strong enough to continue.

For his parents, every day has been filled with both fear and hope.
“There were nights we didn’t sleep, just watching him breathe,” Karli said. “He’s so small, but he’s fighting something so big.”
Despite everything, Mason continues to show incredible strength.

His family says his courage has changed them forever.
“He may only be a baby, but he’s the strongest person we know,” they shared. “He’s teaching us what real bravery looks like.”
Through this difficult journey, one thing has become especially clear to them — the life-saving impact of blood donation.
“The blood donors gave our son a fighting chance,” Karli said. “Without them, we wouldn’t be here today.”
