g1 reported that a local fire department responded to the fiery wreckage of the helicopter on Saturday at 11:11 a.m., though the response was made difficult by the remote nature of the crash site. The crash also caused fire to spread throughout the wooded hillside, though military personnel with expertise in fighting fires managed to control the blaze, per g1.

Victor Manrique — Wendy’s brother and Murillo’s uncle — told local outlets that he, his wife and their 15-year-old daughter were in Brazil on a vacation with the other three members of their extended family and had booked a 20-minute scenic helicopter ride to see the iconic Christ the Redeemer from the sky, reported g1.

Brazil’s Aeronautical Accidents Investigation and Prevention Center and Rio de Janeiro’s Civil Police have opened investigations into the incident, per g1.
