For 12 precious days, little Olivia Rose Heartilly Aranda fought her way through one medical challenge after another.

Born on November 1, Olivia initially appeared to be a strong and healthy baby. Her lungs were developing well, although she had some difficulty breathing. Doctors suspected she might be experiencing apnea and placed her under close observation in the nursery.

When nurses tried to feed Olivia, they discovered that she was struggling to keep her food down. She was having difficulty both eating and breathing, so doctors moved her to the NICU, where she received oxygen support and feeding assistance.

By November 14, she had made encouraging progress. She was breathing and eating without the help of oxygen or a feeding tube, and doctors felt she was doing well enough to move her back to the nursery.

Just one day later, her parents received news they had been longing to hear: they were told Olivia could potentially go home within two weeks.

For her family, it felt like the beginning of a happy new chapter. But everything changed within days.

On November 17, doctors became concerned that Olivia might have meningitis and planned further testing. Later that afternoon, however, her condition began to deteriorate.

She showed signs of discomfort, while blood tests revealed several abnormal results. Doctors were still searching for an explanation. Olivia also stopped producing urine, and her bladder became distended. A catheter was placed, but she still wasn’t producing urine.

Medical teams continued working to understand what was happening while administering broad-spectrum antibiotics in case a serious infection was involved. Plans were also made for additional lines and further testing.

Then, late that night, Olivia’s parents received the call no parent ever wants to receive. They rushed to the hospital.

When they arrived around 11:30 p.m., their tiny daughter was receiving CPR.

Between midnight and 5 a.m. on November 18, Olivia’s heart stopped several more times. Each time, doctors worked to bring her back.

Her parents remained beside her as the medical team continued fighting for their little girl.

But after hours of intensive efforts, doctors told the family that Olivia’s condition was believed to be related to severe infection, although the exact cause remained unknown. At around 5 a.m., they explained that they had reached the limits of what they could do and discussed allowing Olivia to rest.

Her parents made the heartbreaking decision together.

At approximately 5:18 a.m., just 12 days after entering the world, Olivia passed away peacefully.

For her parents, those 12 days contained a lifetime of memories — from the first moments of watching their daughter struggle to breathe, to the joy of seeing her learn to eat independently, and finally to the desperate hours spent hoping she would make it through.

“We will always remember how hard Olivia fought,” her family shared. “She was here for such a short time, but she changed our lives forever.”

The hospital is now conducting an autopsy in hopes of providing the family with a clearer understanding of what happened to their daughter.

Olivia’s parents are left with questions they desperately hope will one day be answered — and the memory of a tiny girl who spent every one of her 12 days showing extraordinary strength.
